Audi launches new 313PS Biturbo TDI engine in A6, A7 Sportback models

Audi introduces its new 313PS Biturbo TDI engine, which is available for the A6 Saloon and Avant as well as for the A7 Sportback models. This new twin-turbo V6 is noted for being the most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine offered by the Vorsprung durch Technik brand ever. It is also notable for being the sweetest-sounding. The engine is available in A6 models priced from £43,810 OTR. Its price in the A7 Sportback begins at £51,645 OTR. It integrates the trademark Audi TDI refinement with an exhaust-mounted sound actuator that enables it to provide a powerful 650Nm output to the tune of a distinctly sporting soundtrack.
The latest V6 is ranking above the single-turbo 204PS and 245PS variants of the 3.0 TDI that are already featured in the A6 and A7 Sportback lineups. The new engine has a two-stage turbocharger group that provides a maximum boost pressure of 3.2 bar, aiding the A6 3.0 BiTDI quattro Saloon to accelerate from a standstill to 62mph in 5.1 seconds. The same acceleration is made in the A6 Avant and A7 Sportback, but in 5.3 seconds. All the variants deliver an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
Just like the current TDI engines, the new V6 is supported by technologies from the Audi modular efficiency platform such as the start-stop and recuperation systems as well as the innovative thermal management system that brings the oil and coolant up to their operating temperatures quickly. With the help of these systems, combined economy in A6 and A7 Sportback models is on an equal footing at 44.1mpg, which is a remarkable number given the low acceleration times and high outputs involved. With an innovative actuator in the auxiliary channel of the exhaust system, the BiTDI A6 and A7 Sportback models do not sound as if they should be capable of such level-headed economy figures. The actuator system basically consists of a speaker, which enforces a defined oscillation pattern on the exhaust flow and converts the typical TDI exhaust note into a more resonant roar closer to the output of a high-performance petrol engine.
