According to the latest reports, it appears that Audi is planning to install a new gasoline-electric powertrain to the Q5 by 2011, a powertrain that would likely be shared with the A4 and A5 models with which the Q5 shares a great portion of its design. Audi is also expected to launch an economical turbodiesel variant of the Q5 after the hybrid. Audi has realized that Europe and the US are quite different environments with regards to fuel pricing and customer demands on certain products. For one, the price of fuel in the US is higher compared to that of Europe and the difference between the price of diesel and gasoline is not that significant. In the US, the popularity of hybrid technology is certainly higher, thus Audi is sending its hybrid before its diesel Q5 variant.
