Audi is scheduled to introduce a world's first at the Essen Motor Show that will run from November 28 to December 7. Audi will unwrap a race variant of the Audi R8 capable of horsepower in excess of 500. During the upcoming press conference on 28 November, Audi will also introduce its intentions for the motorsport season of 2009. The current victorious Le Mans car and Timo Scheider's winning DTM car will be showing up in Essen together with lots of striking production versions.
The variant of the Audi R8 particularly designed for customer teams will be commemorating its world debut in Essen. Beginning fall of 2009, thus, Audi Sport will for the first time provide a racing car that was specifically developed for customer usage.
Ever since the Audi R8 was unveiled we've been inundated with inquiries about a race version. With the Audi R8, we will offer customers a racing car packed with sophisticated technology and characteristic Audi quality, but which is nevertheless easy to handle, said, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport.
