Audi TT RS and RS5 could make it to the U.S.

2011 Audi TT RS Roadster

It appears that Audi is consiedring the TT RS and the RS5 for the United States market. Still, to ignore the US market with these premium models, would not look good for the brand. An insider in the company, however, said that there is a high probability of the TT-RS and RS5 getting into US showrooms. It has been a traditional strategy by Audi to stagger the launches of its models in order to maintain the excitement. Since the TTS and updated S5 Coupe and the latest Cabrio have recently been opened, Audi does not want high-performing RS models to take away the spotlight from these vehicles, at least not yet.

The insider at Audi offered information that the launching in the US of the TT-RS will take place near the end of 2009 and the RS5 might arrive in 2010. Since the emissions from the RS6's twin-turbo V10 engine is not clean enough, the chances for it making a justifiable business case is quite narrow.

The lineup of engines for the RS5 has not been revealed but one of the main options would be the 4.2 liter V8 derived from the RS4 but tuned more aggressively to get around 450hp (335kW). Married to the V8 powerplant will be a dual-clutch S-tronic gearbox. The RS5 is expected to showcase at the Frankfurt Motor Show this coming September.
