Audi will suspend production of its A3 compact model

Due to slow sales of Audi A3 compact model, more than half of the 4,500 workers at its Ingolstadt, Germany plant will be off work the week of Feb. 15. Audi reasoned that demand for the small car is low because Germany's version of Cash for Clunkers has expired. The carmaker also thinks that interest has waned somewhat because the A3, which was introduced in its current version in 2004, is aging. In the US, the 2011 version of the A3 sedan arrives in the fall as an addition to the Sportback already on sale.
