What makes the 2009 Audi A4 sport sedan a leading choice among car buyers is its superb safety features that has been strongly confirmed by the US government's passenger car safety tests. The A4 attained the highest rating of from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Safety regulations in the US require passenger cars to pass the standard 30 mph (48 km/h) front and 33.5 mph (54 km/h) side crash tests.

However, the New Car Assessment Program or NCAP, on which the A4's performance was based, subjected the vehicle to tests that were 5 mph (8 km/h) faster than the regular crash tests, thus providing buyers more safety information.

The ratings given by the NHTSA ranges from one star for the bottom performers to five stars for the highest. The Executive Vice President of Audi of America, Inc., Johan de Nysschen, said.

Unparalleled safety is the cornerstone of Audi's new vehicle development and we are thrilled to see the A4 earn top marks in one of the toughest crash testing programs in the world. Add this to other elements, including segment-leading fuel economy, engine performance, luxury features and size, which all prove the 2009 A4 is at the head of its class.

Besides the A4's stronger and smoother body shell the car also provides advanced safety features and accident-prevention technologies such as: a set of front, side and side-curtain airbags as standard equipment; a dynamic steering system that stabilizes the A4 several times a second when it senses that the car is goes beyond its potentials; an Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC) that automatically reduces the A4's speed when it detects a narrowing of the distance between it and the car ahead.

The 2009 A4 leads by a wide margin against its closest competitors. It has a front track that is wider than the Bmw by 2.5 inches and the Lexus by about an inch, providing it with superior handling. Compared with rival cars in its class, the A4 has more shoulder and head rooms and drives smoother because of its longer wheelbase. The A4‚ powerful, yet fuel efficient, 2.0-liter TFSI (211 hp) and 3.2-liter ( 265 hp) engines coupled with an all-new 6-speed transmission system offers a powerful yet economical ride.
