2010 Hyundai IX35: full details revealed

Article by Christian A., on August 29, 2010

We are sure you've been waiting for it so we'll just give the full specification and details of Hyundai's new IX35 SUV without delay. By now, you probably know that the official launching will be at the Frankfurt motor show next week. Here's the latest release.

A majority of the car's styling cues are taken from Geneva's ix-onic concept and it is the first production Hyundai to feature the firm's new hexagonal family grille.

It will replace the Tucson model in the range. Its 2640mm wheelbase is 10mm longer than the Tucson to give more interior legroom. Its 4410mm length and 1820mm width are greater than its predecessor's dimensions by 85mm and 20mm respectively.

It is also 20mm lower without affecting headroom. Hyundai is offering two petrol engines -- a 164bhp 2.0-litre unit with 145lb ft of torque and CO2 emissions of 178g/km and a 138bhp 1.6-litre unit with 123lb ft of torque and CO2 emissions of 158g/km, which will be available from November 2010. When equipped with ISG stop-start, its CO2 emissions are 149 g/km.

Moreover, two diesel engines are also available. A 2.0-litre unit in two states of tune is offered, one with 181bhp and 289lb ft of torque and the other with 134bhp and 231lb ft of torque. A 1.7-liter unit will be available from November 2010 and it has 113bhp and 188lb ft of torque.

When equipped with the ISG, emissions are kept to 149g/km. Six-speed manual gearboxes are standard with the diesels, while a six-speed auto's is available with the 2.0-litre diesel.

The front suspension features Macpherson struts, while a multi-link rear suspension appears at the rear. Hyundai is confident that it will get a five star Euro NCAP safety rating when it undergoes testing for front and side impacts.

A huge welcome is the addition of two new safety features a hill assist control and downhill brake control help the driver start and stop on hills. Inside, a 3.5-inch LCD screen appears in the rear-view mirror designed to assist with reversing maneuvers. A push button start also features, as does an air-conditioned cooled glove box and integrated sat-nav. Low resistance tires are offered on the 16-inch wheels, while optional 255/55 R18 wheels are also offered.
