Audi's all-new A8 super luxury sedan will be available in UK showrooms starting spring 2010 and will be sold from £54,760 to £66,240. Buyers can choose from a variety of upgraded engines. The 3.0 TDI is capable of 250PS (184kW) and 550Nm of torque, the 4.2 V8 TDI generates 350PS (257kW) and 800Nm, while the 4.2 V8 FSI gets its power/torque hiked from 350PS/ 440Nm to 372PS (274kW) and 445Nm.
Later in 2010, a new "baseline" 3.0 TDI with 204PS (150kW) and 159g/km will be added. The more powerful 3.0 TDI has a fuel economy at 42.8mpg while it has 174g/km of CO2 emissions.
The 4.2 V8 TDI is improved to 37.2mpg with CO2 emissions of 199g/km and the petrol 4.2 V8 FSI was recorded to have a 13% improvement to 29.7mpg and CO2 gases of 219g/km.
The A8 may be made from lightweight aluminum but it is the most rigid car in its class. Audi gave the vehicle several fuel-saving devices that include recuperation technology, which recycles wasted kinetic energy from braking, a start-stop function and a new 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.
The latest-generation asymmetric quattro system (first used in the S4) distributes torque between the axles as well as between the two rear wheels. Passengers will experience more comfort due to the aluminum suspension that features adaptive four-mode air springs.
Safety features fitted into the car include airbags, ABS brakes with EBD, ESP and Adaptive Cruise Control with a four-stage pre-sense safety system that under certain circumstances can automatically bring the A8 to a complete stop.
