British carmaker Bentley is introducing a range of styling options that should confirm the performance potential of the new Bentley Continental GT -- the new Mulliner Styling Specification. Created to further highlight the iconic form of the new Bentley Continental GT, the Mulliner Styling Specification is designed by Bentley's head of exterior design Raul Pires, who was responsible for the lithe shape of the carmaker’s newest GT.
Pires quipped that the Mulliner Styling Specification – featuring sharper lines and darker, lower appearance – works to emphasize the extrovert, flashy nature of the new Bentley Continental GT. He added that the Mulliner Styling Specification is designed to deliver a more personalized, athletic interpretation of a luxurious GT. With the new Mulliner Styling Specification, customers are given the chance to customize their new Continental GT with an array of stylish features all designed and engineered at Bentley’s Crewe facility in England.
The Classic Pack of the new Mulliner Styling Specification brings more iconic drama with the inclusion of solid carbon-fiber strakes integrated into the lower front intake grille, a sleek black carbon-fiber front bumper splitter, a rear diffuser and side extension blades. Located just beneath the sills, these black carbon-fiber extension blades sweep down the sides of the new Continental GT to provide a new interpretation of the vehicle’s stunning profile, trying to divert the attention of onlookers to its sharp power lines and taut rear haunches.
Interestingly, each extension blade features a discreet 'Winged B' motif. A full-width black carbon-fiber rear diffuser further defines the Continental GT’s hallmark elliptical twin exhaust tailpipes. Each element of the Mulliner Styling Specification is made from black high-gloss carbon fiber and features a distinctive weave design. Each carbon fiber component is designed to echo the elegantly crafted wood veneers found inside the cabin of the vehicle’s luxurious cabin, employing a similar 'mirror matching' process with the distinct weave pattern that flows in a single direction.
These elements from the Classic Pack are complemented by a new range of four individual design options. One of these optional design features is the stylish black carbon-fiber rear spoiler that deploys when the new Bentley Continental GT is moving at high speeds as well as carbon-fiber door mirror cowls. Customers may also further personalize their GT with the optional 21-inch seven-spoke Elegant alloy wheels painted in black with contrasting bright machined detailing. Other design elements include the stunning dark chrome mesh wing vents with black carbon-fiber bezels. The front wing vest – located just behind the front wheel arches – has mesh vents that allow for better heat diffusion while further emphasizing the Continental GT's high-performance potential.
To make sure that the components of the Mulliner Styling Specification are of high quality and durability, Bentley had them undergo rigorous quality and engineering testing as well as a development program. For instance, a Continental GT fitted with these components was made to undergo a series of high performance 'V-Max' tests and wind tunnel evaluations to make sure that these Mulliner Styling Specification elements do not compromise the handling and performance of the new Continental GT. Moreover, Bentley had the carbon-fiber used for the component undergo an extended regime of extreme climatic and real world driving tests to make sure that they are durable enough to become part of the new Continental GT.
All components of the Mulliner Styling Specification – both the Classic and optional packages – are fitted only factory-trained technicians at authorized Bentley dealers to ensure that the brand’s standards of build quality are upheld. Steve O'Hara, Aftersales Director, quipped that customers for the new Continental GT would surely have a peace of mind in knowing that the components of the Mulliner Styling Specification underwent intensive aerodynamic and durability testing program. In addition, these elements are backed by a full Bentley warranty. Interested customers could commence placing their orders for the Classic Pack starting June 2011, for the optional design features starting in Autumn 2011.
