Pricing and details for Kia’s new Sportage model, which will start selling in the UK on Nov.1, have been announced. The engine options for the Sportage include two diesel units and two petrol powerplants. A 1.6 liter direct injection petrol unit is the entry-level engine. Then there’s a 2.0 liter CVVT petrol engine. The diesel units include a 1.7 liter CRDi and a 2.0 liter CRDi.
Sportage also offers the option between a manual or an automatic gearbox as well as between three equipment levels (“1”, “2” and “3”).
All-wheel drive is an option for the 2 and 3 models. This feature changes the names of the vehicles, offering the “KX” designation. The entry level Sportage is priced from 16,654 pounds and it is offered with the 1 trim level and a 1.6 liter petrol engine.
The 2 equipment level has a starting price of 20.020 pounds while the 3 trim level is priced from 21,595 pounds.
In this range, the most expensive model is the 2.0 CRDi KX-3, which has a price tag of 26,170 pounds. One option that many customers have shown interest for is the metallic paint, which is priced at 435 pounds.
The new Kia Sportage was so warmly received in Europe that the company is confident that it will make a significant impact on the compact SUV market. The aerodynamic drag figure has improved Cd 0.37 (reduced from 0.40), and the vehicle has become lighter, now weighing 91 kgs.
This significant loss of weight means there are savings in economy and efficiency. The Kia Sportage will be available to the public later this year and will come with four different engines. There are two petrol and two diesel motors, ranging from 115 ps to 163 ps - manual and automatic transmissions and two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
However, there’s a variation on what will be available from country to country in Europe as they’re built to meet local preferences and demands. At the time of writing, Kia had not made its final decision with regard to the UK market range but we have been assured that all engine variants will be offered and Kia Motors (UK) Ltd will have all the transmission and drive options.
This is good news to UK customers as their choices will be wide. Engine options range from the 2 litre diesel and petrol choices to the smaller green efficient engines that feature new technology such as Intelligent Stop and Go (ISG) to keep CO2 emissions as low as 138 g/km.
Across most of the European market, a number of new safety features will be fitted as standard including an ESC with new Roll-Over Sensor with side airbags, curtain airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners when required, Hillstart Assist Control to prevent roll-back when starting on an incline, Downhill Brake Control to limit speed during a steep descent and an ESS system which flashes the brake lights during an emergency.
As an option, all models can be fitted with the rear view mirror, which also has an LCD colour display integrated into it to ensure that the driver’s view is optimized. The Kia Sportage will be produced at the Kia Factory at Zilina, Slovakia, +-with a range of ten exterior colours.
The interior is black, with the choice of cloth, part leather or full leather options that can be made more bespoke with personalised accents in dark light or orange colour.
The interior is impressive with high tech features such as Xenon HID headlamps, LED running lights, keyless entry, engine start button, reversing safety camera, built-in sat-nav and full-length panoramic glass sunroof. This Sportage SUV will be available with the ever so popular seven-year Kia Warranty throughout Europe. The all new Sportage range will be available in European showrooms starting summer.
