Even before the Mazda2 is launched in North America, the carmaker is already making plans to produce a special edition model. The Mazda2 Yozora model will be offered exclusively in Canada. The term 'Yozora' can be roughly translated to 'night sky.' And to fit that theme, the model gets a unique black paint hue.
A special decal package has also been prepared for this car. The number 2 is stamped across the driver's side front fender in a variety of colors. The package offers a unique rear spoiler, a chrome tailpipe, and 16-inch aluminum wheels covered in Toyo high performance rubber.
Mazda also designed the car to adapt to Canada's cold winters. The car is equipped with a set of winter tires that are mounted on steel wheels. The interior of the Mazda2 Yozora edition is similar to that of the Mazda2 GM trim level, except that it gets special floor mats.
The special edition's standard equipment includes air conditioning, heated exterior mirrors, remote keyless entry, cruise control, and an upgraded sound system.
Mike Collinson, director of marketing and product strategy for Mazda Canada, said that the Mazda2 Yozora is expected to appeal to a younger group who are believed to value 'individuality and expression.'
The Yozora is seen to attract this group with its 'captivating design, exceptional value, and fun-to-drive attributes.'
Collinson also said that the Yozora offers the most in-demand accessories and customization in one convenient package.
The Yozora is priced from about $19,280 or $19,200 in American dollars, excluding destination charge. Only 500 units of the limited edition vehicle will be built. Customers can opt for a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.
