Article by Christian Andrei, on August 26, 2010

MINI unveiled today its facelifted range with eye-catching design modifications, additional engine variants, an all-new selection of diesel engines and innovative new equipment features. Designed to take on cars such as the Audi A1, Alfa Romeo MiTo or the popular Fiat 500, the new MINI promises an improved fuel economy, reduced CO2 emissions and more appealing than ever.

Set to make its global debut on 18 September 2010, the new range will receive brace of all-new diesel engines joining the portfolio alongside the extensively upgraded petrol engines already available for the MINI, MINI Clubman and MINI Convertible (all the other engines will remain the same).

The new MINI One D (66 kW/90 hp) and new MINI Cooper D (82 kW/112 hp) will set a new benchmark in efficiency with average fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres (74.3 mpg imp) in the EU5 test cycle and CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.

Regarding the design, the new 2011 MINI features a modest facelift including more chrome around the front grille area, a new front bumper which was designed in order to protect pedestrians in case of an impact and new LED tail-lights.

Inside, we find revised controls for the audio systems and air-conditioning, new colours for trim elements, new stereo featuring MP3 compatibility and aux-in connection as well as new colours for seat upholstery.

MINI Connected system has also been revised and now is capable to offer iPhone users the chance to view video files and album artwork on an onboard monitor as well as Twitter updates and Facebook posts.

An array of new exterior paint finishes and wheel designs is available for the MINI, MINI Clubman and MINI Convertible to complement their refreshed styling.

Chili Red is now available exclusively for the MINI John Cooper Works and MINI John Cooper Works Clubman as a contrast colour for the roof and exterior mirror caps. Meanwhile, three "design worlds" Rally, Classic and Scene have been introduced to underpin configurations tailored to the customer's personal style.
