Smart is offering a new special edition of its Fortwo city car that has CO2 emissions of only 86g/km. Dubbed the Smart Fortwo Lightshine, this car is powered by a 54bhp, 0.8-litre, three-cylinder CDI engine.
Smart claims that this is the cleanest combustion-engined car in the world. The Lightshine is based on the Passion coupé model and it features light green matte body panels, LED daytime running lights, color-coded headlamp surrounds, Lightshine badging and bespoke alloy wheels.
The Lightshine also includes a touch-sensitive satellite navigation system (as found in the top-spec Passion), CD/DVD/SD functionality and iPod connectivity.
Its interior has been fitted with a three-spoke steering wheel with gearshift paddles and floor mats with an embedded Lightshine logo. Only 86 units will be made and all these are destined for the UK. Notably, the 86 number is in reference to its CO2 emissions rating. The Lightshine has a starting price of £11,405.
Just like the most recent smart fortwo, the lightshine edition comes with fresh designs of its upper dashboard and glovebox, as well as new fabric patterns and improved materials.
The special edition also brings the passion model’s high line system for navigation with a bigger touch screen, support for CD/DVD/SD and an iPod interface, while the finishing touches on the interior include a 3-spoke steering wheel alongside paddle shift gear change and floor mats presenting the ‘lightshine’ logo.
It was announced that just 86 of the smart fortwo lightshine edition will be made for the United Kingdom and they will all have the 54bhp CDI engine. The lightshine edition will be able to decrease its CO2 emission to only 86g/km due to the softip pulse transmission.
This is a great achievement as this is the lowest emission among all combustion engine cars. Managing Director of Mercedes Benz Cars Gary Savage stated that the lightshine edition follows smart values, having a style that’s catchy for the eye, as well as great comfort and compatibility with the environment.
Savage says that all these are offered in a fun-to-drive package, adding that the lightshine edition shows how continuous innovation is essential for the demands of clients. Savage thinks that the special addition is the ideal choice for customers who want to own something entertaining and original while not compromising practicality and economy.
