2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C: official details, photos and specs

Article by Christian A., on December 21, 2010

Subaru revealed today the 2011 Impreza WRX STI Spec C, the latest addition to the current WRX STI line-up which will go on sale on the Japanese market. As expected, the car is based on the Impreza WRX STI, but comes with enhanced engine and chassis performance as well as a lighter body.

Under the hood we find the 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbocharged engine capable to deliver 227kW (308 PS) @ 6,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 430 Nm (43.8 kgfm) @ 4,400 rpm.

According to Subaru, the twin scroll turbocharger newly adopted ball bearings for the turbine axle bearing as well as the ECU (Engine Control Unit) program were also exclusively tuned.

An inter-cooler water spray prevents rise in intake-air temperature at continued high-load driving, providing stable engine performance and improved efficiency.

Regarding the chassis, the manufacturer says the reinforcement of the cross member in front-suspensions offers a linear steering response, while the rear LSD (Limited Slip Differential) system was changed to a mechanical type from a Torsen type in order to obtain a steady and powerful traction during cornering.

Moreover, the car comes with a new form steering wheel thanks to the increased oil flow volume as well as new Bridgestone "POTENZA RE070" (245/40R18) tires which provide a higher grip performance, especially in dry conditions.
