Toyota released today the official details and specs of the 2011 Highlander, which promises to take on the competition with a new design, additional standard amenities and new user technology. The 2011 Highlander offers two distinctive engines: a 2.7-liter four-cylinder available since 2009 and a 3.5-liter V6 (offered as standard on Limited).
The 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 187 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of peak torque, EPA-rated at 25 mpg on the highway. The engine is fitted with a variable intake manifold and dual variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i), and comes only with a standard six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
Regarding the bigger 3.5-liter V6 engine, this powerplant produces 270 hp and 248 lb.-ft. of torque. Just like the smaller 2.7-liter engine, it comes with dual VVT-i and a variable intake manifold, but it is mated to a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission (ECT) that offers selectable manual sequential shifting. Regarding the design, the 2011 model year comes with a completely new front fascia, hood and fenders.
Furthermore, it comes with redesigned headlights and tail lamps. The design is completed by the 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Limited Grade offers stylish 19-inch wheels as well as silver roof rails.
The SE grade gains a power liftgate. The 2011 Highlander comes with new Tech Audio as standard for SE and Limited and optional for the Base version and includes features such as the USB port, integrated XM Satellite Radio (includes 90-day trial subscription) and Bluetooth.
A standard 50/50 split third-row seat and manual rear climate control have been made standard for all 2011 models. In addition to featuring the Star Safety System, which is standard on all Toyota models, the 2011 Highlander will receive standard Smart Stop Technology, Toyota’s brake override system.
Pricing will start at $27,390 for the base four-cylinder two-wheel drive model; the SE V6 two-wheel drive will be $33,150, while the Limited V6 four wheel-drive model will be $36,345.
