2011 Vauxhall VXR8: official details, photos and specs

Article by Christian Andrei, on December 15, 2010

Vauxhall’s next-generation VXR8 that was shown earlier this week has been refined and has received a boost to its performance. The VXR8 is expected to arrive in U.K. dealerships in March 2011. The first VXR8 had used the Clubsport R8 but the new model -- the Holden Special Vehicles-built super-saloon – now has the Australian firm’s GTS model as its base.

Vauxhall’s flagship will still be powered by 6.2-litre Chevrolet V8 engine, which delivers 425bhp, with 406lb ft, enabling it to sprint from zero to 60mph in 4.9sec and reach a top speed of 155mph.

But as a bonus, the new VXR8 will feature a more advanced suspension technology, a revised interior with HSV Performance seats, and launch control. The new VXR8 will also have the old version’s MacPherson strut/multi-link suspension layout and a mechanical limited-slip differential.

But as a new feature, it will have Magnetic Ride Control, which adapts the car’s set-up up to 1000 times per second. To enhance its exterior styling, the model received a new grille, LED daytime running lights, LED tail-lights and a rear spoiler.

When it comes to the interior, the VXR8 got new seats, a cabin with full leather trim as standard, a new instrument cluster and switchgear, and an Enhanced Driver Interface to link with the on-board computer, giving information such as g-forces, power, torque and lap times.

Owners who want to download the data for further analysis may do so with the MOTEC software that Vauxhall is offering. The VRX8 will be offered with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

It will be available in seven specialized Vauxhall dealers; however, up to 34 outlets can service it. The VRX8 has a starting price of £49,500 (including 20% VAT), which represents a more than £20k drop in price compared to a Mercedes E63 AMG.
