Audi revealed today the facelifted version of the popular A5 model which is offered in three versions: Sportback, Coupé, Cabriolet. As you can see from the photos, the 2012 Audi A5 Facelift gets the new design line seen also on the 2012 Audi A6, which means the car received a new set of stylish headlights available in xenon plus technology with homogenous LED daytime running lights (as an option), new rear lights as well as new colors and materials for the interior.
According to Audi, the refreshed A5 interior is now available with Nappa leather, which replaces the Valcona in the Sportback (which is now optionally available as a five-seater). Under the hood, all engines feature optionally available as a five-seater and this means we will find the entry-level 1.8 TFSI delivering 125 kW (170 hp) and a fuel consumption of just 5.7 liters of fuel per 100 km (41.27 US mpg) and 134 grams CO2 per km (215.65 g/mile).
Furthermore, we find the 2.0 TFSI with its 155 kW (211 hp), but also the 3.0 TFSI (new to the Audi A5 lineup) delivering 200 kW (272 hp). The popular 2.0 TDI comes with 130 kW (177 hp) and a fuel consumption of just 4.7 liters of fuel per 100 km (50.05 US mpg) and a CO2 equivalent of 122 g per km (196.34 g/mile).
The well-known 3.0 TDI with 150 kW (204 hp) is the most fuel-efficient six-cylinder unit in its class worldwide as it produces 180 kW (245 hp) and delivers a fuel consumption of 4.9 liters (48 US mpg) per 100 km and just 129 grams CO2 per km (207.61 g/mile). A second variant of this engine is available, delivering 180 kW (245 hp). Regarding the prices, the 2012 Audi A5 Facelift is with only €200 more expensive than the current model. The base model, the Audi A5 Sportback 1.8 TFSI, costs €33,350.
The Audi A5 models -- Cabriolet, Coupe and Sportback -- have been impressing customers with their unstated elegance. You have muscular surfaces that are beautifully accentuated by flowing silhouettes mixed with sharp lines. The new design also has several sharp accents added in.
The 2012 Audi A5 cars have a single-frame grille that have beveled upper corners, while the Audi’s logo looks like it has been sculpted into the grille’s lateral bars. You also have a redesigned bumper that has more noticeable air inlets, flat fog lights and redesigned grilles. Meanwhile, the hood looks more alive and three-dimensional with sharply chiseled edges. The front hood design makes the car’s front look wider and flatter.
The headlamps are also newly designed, with changes to the interior and lower edges. You can choose xenon plus lights for your head lamps, while you have LED daytime running lights. The carmaker also gives you the chance to fit in the adaptive light system that has dynamic turning and cornering lights. The rear lights also sport a new design and may be fitted with LED light strips. There are also a few added details to the rear bumper.
The exterior is a little bit longer. The Audi A5 Coupe and the Audi A5 Cabriolet are now 4.63 meters long, while the A5 Sportback is now 4.71 meters long. There are also more paint colors to choose from as Audi allows you to pick from 16 different colors to suit your taste. You also have four additional colors for the A5 Cabriolet’s acoustic top, while you can opt for the S line exterior package if you want a more dynamic and aggressive look.
Solidity and lightness define the A5’s body, ensuring vibrational comfort and top-notch crash safety. You also have aluminum front fenders that give you better axial load distribution. Plus, you have refinements that help the aerodynamics of the car, such as the lined underbody.
The interiors of the different A5 models show the brand features of Audi. They make use of the best materials, feature top-quality finish and fit, and highlight a great use of surfaces and proportions. The overall look is elegant. That new level of elegance is made even more obvious with the new steering wheels, new column stalks, and optional flattened rings. You can also find chrome clasps that adorn the control elements.
You can also opt for the optional seat ventilation and seat heating systems, which you can fully control with a single button. The ignition key, the transmission selector lever, and the controls for the air conditioning have also been updated, along with the Audi drive select system’s button and multi-use steering wheel. Onboard displays are now lit by white lamps.
The bezels of the instrument panel and the center console now have new paint covers. Meanwhile, you can choose from a new selection of inlays and upholstery. Inlays are available in walnut, natural fine grain ash or aluminum trigon. The interior colors have also been given a color upgrade, while fine Nappa leather is used in the Sportback. You can opt to have the armrests wrapped in leather as well.
And you can also get the Sportback in a five-seater configuration.
Lastly, you have the S line sport package, which is an optional add-on that paints the entire interior in black, further accentuating the elegance of the interior. The sport suspension in Audi A5 brings the vehicle body 10 millimeters closer to the ground. It’s supported perfectly by the 18-inch wheels.
