2012 Audi A6 gets five stars rating at the Euro NCAP crash test

Article by Christian A., on August 25, 2011

Safety organization Euro NCAP named the Audi A6 as one of the nine vehicles in its latest tested batch to receive the maximum five-star rating. After testing the model with a 2.0 diesel, Euro NCAP gave it a score of 41 points for child occupant protection, achieving maximum points for the tests on both the 18 month old child and 3 year old child.

In its class, the new Audi A6 is one of the safest cars according to the results to the tests on adult occupant protection in a frontal or side collision and child safety and pedestrian protection.

The top rating of five stars was given to the A6 for driver and passenger protection in frontal and side impact collisions. When it comes to active safety, the Audi A6 features an integral pedestrian protection system with standard daytime running lights and optional night vision assistant with a pedestrian warning.

For added driver assistance systems, Audi offers the active lane assist or the all-weather light with adaptive headlight range control. Audi said that its pre sense system is a “milestone in active safety,” saying that in instances where there may be a collision, this system initiates partial braking.

However, if a collision can’t be avoided, the partial braking is followed by a full deceleration that lessens the intensity of the impact. Target braking helps drivers when they fail to apply enough braking force even after getting visual and acoustic warnings

The Audi A6 Hybrid will soon come out with a new design. Expect a new breed of sedan with Audi’s comprehensive assistance and multimedia system to go along with the hybrid’s sportier chassis and lighter body. Above all, the new Audi will combine a four-cylinder engine’s fuel efficiency with V6 power.

The latest A6 Hybrid is made of advanced steel technology and world-class aluminium for lighter, safer yet strong body. Moreover, the new design results in highly impressive low interior noise levels.

Audi provides an exceptional vibrational comfort by accurately tuning all its components. The drivetrain bearings and the axles are also placed systematically.

There can be no doubt; the new Audi A6 hybrid is sport and luxury rolled into one. It measures 4.92 metres in length, 1.87 metres in width and 1.46 metres for the height. Truly, the new dimensions prove that the new sedan is a cut above the rest.

Adding to its already impressive new design is the very extensive roofline and equally long engine hood. Similarly, the stunning headlights in LED enhance the car’s all-new dynamic style.

It goes without saying that the new sedan also boasts of a very spacious interior. The sporty yet luxurious new design flows throw through the driver’s seat and all the way to the back. All the curves and elegant shapes fall perfectly into place particularly along the dashboard and at the centre panel.

A massage function and extra ventilation are offered as an option for the seats. Among the standard features of Audi included in the A6 are the automatic air conditioning system, MMI radio, head-up display, MMI navigation plus system, Bluetooth, UMTS module, WLAN, Google Earth and Bang & Olufsen sound system. If there’s more, the ergonomic concepts make the new Audi A6 one of the most desirable hybrids in its class.

Audi A6 gets top rating for passive crash safety

The Euro NCAP consortium has awarded the new Audi A6 the maximum five-star rating for passive crash safety. The results for adult occupant protection in a frontal, rear or side collision and for child safety and pedestrian protection make the new Audi A6 one of the safest cars in its class.

The Euro NCAP consortium has awarded the new Audi A6 the maximum five-star rating for passive crash safety. Founded in 1997, the consortium is made up of international representatives from European transport ministries, automobile associations, insurers and consumer protection organizations. It performs extensive testing of the crash performance of new cars.

The results for adult occupant protection in a frontal or side collision and the child safety and pedestrian protection place the new Audi A6 among the safest cars in its class. The demanding test requirements of the Euro NCAP far exceed the standards of European lawmakers.

The scores awarded by the testers to the A6 for driver and passenger protection in frontal and side impact collisions easily earned the car the top rating of five stars. Children are also well protected in the new Audi A6. But ensuring protection for pedestrians and cyclists is also an important concern for Audi. A vehicle front end specially designed for this requirement helps to mitigate the consequences of a collision. The Audi A6 earned similarly good results in the Euro NCAP test.

In addition to the elements evaluated by the institution, Audi also gives top priority to integral safety as well as active safety. For this reason the Audi A6 offers an integral pedestrian protection system with standard daytime running lights and optional night vision assistant with a pedestrian warning. Additional driver assistance systems include Audi active lane assist or the all-weather light with adaptive headlight range control.

The Audi pre sense system is a milestone in active safety. In situations where a collision is likely, the "Audi pre sense plus" system initiates partial braking. If a collision is unavoidable, the partial braking is followed by a full deceleration that reduces the intensity of the impact. Target braking assists drivers in situations where they do not apply sufficient braking force despite having received visual and acoustic warnings.
