Audi has released the pricing information for the 2012 R8 GT Spyder. Including destination charges, the all-wheel-drive, Lamborghini-V10-sporting convertible is priced at $211,200. Just 333 samples will be produced. Of this number, only 50 will be brought to the U.S. Audi has assembled the same number of hardtop GTs, with 90 going to the U.S.
It could deliver as much as 560 hp in the open-top R8 GT, with 398 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 5.2-liter, direct-injection V10 enables the vehicle to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 197 mph.
Audi reduced the weight of the R8 V10 by 187 pounds, improving both acceleration and fuel economy. Its engine cradle is built from ultralight magnesium and its soft-top cover and rear side panels use carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer. Its fixed rear spoiler is carbon fiber too. The GT Spyder is 10 millimeters lower than the R8 V10, and a stiffer calibration is used on its suspension.
Braking power comes from XYZ ventilated and cross-drilled rotors while a set of 19-inch wheels is used. The GT Spyder also comes with a bigger rear diffuser, front splitter and a fixed rear spoiler. Its interior is only available in black but accent stitching may be ordered in gray or red. Alcantara trim can be seen on the seat inserts, flat-bottomed steering wheel, parking brake and windshield frame.
The insides of the 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder were built with workmanship and materials that speak of the meticulous attention to detail that was given the car. The controls have a logical structure and the interior is very spacious, while the front end can easily accommodate around 100 liters of cargo. The bulkhead at the rear has a trio of storage compartments.
Moreover, the inside is black and you can choose to add in stitching in either crimson or titanium gray. Alcantara upholstery is standard to all models, and you can find it on the windshield frame and the sport steering wheel, as well. You can also choose fine Nappa leather. Meanwhile, there are a number of details here that give the car class, such as the R8 GT logo and the white dials. You also have the matt CFRP R8 monoposto, which is a big arch that encircles the cockpit.
There are a lot of premium standard equipment such as LED taillamps and headlamps, the navigation system, the driver information system and the automatic climate control system. Audi also gives its customers a state of the art sound system made by Bang & Olufsen as well as a Bluetooth system that has a seatbelt microphone that makes phone conversations convenient.
Exclusive to the R8 GT are the bucket seats that feature a composite chassis made of carbon fiber, embroidered logos found on the seat upholstery, and the matt CFRP applications.
