Set to make its debut in Summer 2012, the new M Sport Package developed for the 2012 Bmw 3-Series Sedan will offer a lowered M Sport suspension featuring a 10 millimetre (0.4 in.) drop in ride height as well as a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch wheels will be available as an option).
Furthermore, the M aerodynamics package will include special body parts, and by chrome tailpipes as well as an exclusive exterior paintwork and interior trim to match. The BMW Individual High-gloss Shadowline trim give the car that typical M look. The 3-Series sedan fitted with the M Sport Pack wll offer an optional exclusive M paint shade and optional M Sport brakes with contrasting blue paint finish.
Same Sport theme will be continued at the interior where the car will feature sports seats boasting distinctive cloth/Alcantara upholstery, trim elements with blue accent strips, an M Shortshifter (in models with manual gearbox), M door sill finishers, an M driver’s footrest and the new M leather steering wheel.
According to Bmw, the M aerodynamics package and M Sport suspension can also be specified separately. Also as an option, Bmw will offer the Adaptive M Sport suspension with electronically controlled damping.
This suspension is based on the “incoming information about body and wheel acceleration, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, vehicle speed and steering wheel position, an electronic control unit". All these factors adapt the damper mapping to the road surface and driving situation. Moreover, also as an option, an eight-speed sports automatic suspension with faster shift times and sporty steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts is also available.
BMW 3 Series’ newly designed grille with extensive headlamps further enhances the wider width and strong profile of the 6th generation model. If we are to compare the previously released BMW Series 3, the latest gen is significantly larger in almost every aspect.
The new model’s wider track measures 1.85-in/+47mm at the rear and 1.46-in/37mm at the front. It is also much longer now considering the 3.66-in/+93mm sizes in length. Meanwhile, the overall wheelbase stands at 1.96-in/+50mm. This simply highlights the tough and sporty surfaces being showcased from inside and out.
The much-larger dimensions are offered in all the three variants. Take for instance the BMW 3 Series’ luxuriating ambience backed up by a more spacious passenger cabin. This will not go unnoticed especially for the rear passengers whether they choose to avail the Modern, Luxury or the Sport Line. In fact, each line has its own unique identity to match the superior quality materials used on the equipment and other interior enhancements that are available.
As usual, the new BMW 3 Series is equipped with the Drive and Chassis technology that the brand is known for. This aspect provides the impressive driving dynamics and agility that we always admired about the sedan. Surprisingly, the much bigger and bolder luxury car has an amazing curb weight of just 40kg. That is even lighter than the older model.
There are two choices of engines currently being offered for the US consumers. Any of which will come with BMW’s new TwinPower Turbo technology. Other than the already mighty N55 cylinder engine for the 335i variant, there is also the new N20 4-cylinder turbocharged engine included in the BMW328i to choose from.
The new generation engine was first introduced in the sDrive28i Z4 2012 model. It is designed for lower fuel consumption and excellent driving dynamics. The powerful yet efficient engine performance relies on the advanced 8-speed AT gearbox. This can be modified with any of the 335i or 328i variant including the standard Auto-Start-Stop function system.
Outstanding efficiency of the new BMW3 Series can do so much more than any of BMW’s 6-speed manual gearbox models. (That is when it comes to fuel economy). Still, the new sedan has taken “efficiency”, “driving performance” and “shift comfort” to a higher level. Car buyers longing for these dynamic potentials may have finally found their perfect match.
