2012 Bmw M3 DTM excites tens of thousands of fans at the DTM season finale

Article by Christian Andrei, on October 25, 2011

BMW fans were truly delighted with how the M3 DTM performed at the season finale of DTM at Hockenheim (DE), with Dirk Werner (DE) finishing two laps with a Mercedes-Benz and an Audi on the track in the “BMW M Performance Accessories M3 DTM” -- one lap was prior to the DTM race and one immediately afterwards.

The three premium constructors, which are included in the series in the future, gave supporters an initial sample of the forthcoming year. BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt commented that the event was "something very special" for them, adding that the crowd's reactions to their vehicle were "all positive."

He further stated that the event has a "lot of extra motivation" to present in top form in half a year's time at the same venue. Dirk Werner, BMW works driver, stated that the event was a "great experience," adding that although he had driven the BMW M3 DTM in the recent tests, a "stage like this really is something special." The new “BMW M Performance Accessories” livery of the BMW M3 DTM was shown to the public at the BMW Autohaus Krauth in Heidelberg (DE) on Friday.

On July 15th, the BMW M3 DTM concept was formally presented at the BMW Welt in Munich (DE). From 2012 on, BMW will contend in the DTM with three powerful teams: the BMW Team Schnitzer, the BMW Team RMG and the BMW Team RBM. The BMW works drivers Augusto Farfus (BR) and Andy Priaulx (GB) were already confirmed as drivers for next year's season.

BMW M3 brings together great driving performance figures with more fuel efficiency and low exhaust emission levels.

The BMW M3 Coupé, BMW M3 Sedan, and BMW M3 Convertible models are fitted with the BMW EfficientDynamics, and its features are further supplemented with the Auto Start Stop Function. Together, these lower the fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions of the BMW M3 by as much as 8 percent or around 24 grams per kilometer.

By spring 2010, the Competition Package will also be available and this will further highlight the sporty look of the model.

Auto Start Stop Function

M3 is able to perform superbly with top-notch efficiency. It has a 4.0-L V8 engine that gives you 309 kW of power, as well as outstanding acceleration response because of its one-of-a-kind propulsion.

The eight cylinder engine that was exclusively made for the BMW M3 is very efficient as well as high performing. The Auto Start Stop Function makes it more efficient as it helps the driver avoid idling when you are stuck in traffic or stopped at intersections. The engine is switched off when the car comes to a full stop to help save fuel.

When the driver wants to go, the engine is reactivated without any delays. You can get this function with the six-speed manual transmission that has the M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic. The BMW M3, the BMW ActiveHybrid 7, and the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 are the very first models to use these efficiency enhancing measures with automated manual transmission.
