Fiat released today the first photos with the new 2012 Freemont crossover, a rebadged version of the 2011 Dodge Journey which will make its official debut in March at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The new car is part of Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne's plan to cut costs and boost capacity utilization at company’s factories.
As you can see from the photos, the new car features some minor exterior design tweaks, a revised interior as well as a stiffer and more responsive suspension and steering for European drivers. The 2012 Fiat Freemont, will have front wheel drive with turbo diesel power units (140 HP or 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet). These engines will be mated to a manual gearbox.
Later, the car will be available with all-wheel drive, using 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet and 276 HP 3.6 petrol V6 engines, both mated to automatic transmissions. All the engines will be produced by FPT- Fiat PowerTrain.
The only exception will be the 3.6 litre unit from the Chrysler Group Pentastar family and its automatic transmission. Regarding the safety, Fiat promises 7 airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill-Holder and electronic roll mitigation (ERM) as standard on all models.
In order to simplify the purchase and selection, Fiat promises to offer only two versions of the Freemont. Both versions will be available with 7 seats, triple-zone automatic climate control system, keyless entry system, cruise control, advanced trip computer, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), fog lights and touchscreen radio with colour screen and controls on the steering wheel.
The top of the line version will include 17" alloys, touchscreen radio with 8.4" screen, SD card and DVD reader, Bluetooth system, rear parking sensors, fold-down door mirrors, automatic headlight activation, darkened rear windows and roof bars.

The bonnet’s horizontal lines as well as the opaque black weatherstrip covers on its posts, make it look like a single window. In addition, the sculpted wheel arches make the car look more athletic. Even the rear of the car exudes the personality of the Fiat Freemont.
The liftgate is integrated with a spoiler to further improve aerodynamic performance. Innovative LED clusters of light distributed on the liftgate’s lower edge as well as the body give additional style and personality to the car. The line of tail lights on the border of the base of the liftgate window enhances rear visibility.
Freemont’s body colours that will be available upon launch are Bossa Nova White, Progressive Grey, Avantgard Metal Grey, and Symphonic Blue. Soon, colors like Country Brown, Calypso Green and Unplugged Black will be included in the collection.
