2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class gets a new set of accessories

Article by Christian A., on November 25, 2011

To meet the individualization needs of the most discriminating customers, Mercedes-Benz has created an extensive array of new accessories for the M-Class that are made to the company's high quality standards. Among the various add-ons to enhance the vehicle's exterior are snow chain systems, a choice of 12 different light-alloy wheels, bonnet fin attachments, aluminum-finish running boards and valve caps in sterling silver.

For the interior, the new accessories include a wood/leather steering wheel, floor mats, coat hangers or sports pedals in stainless steel, illuminated door sill panels, and various child restraint systems.

Electronic highlights include a rear-seat integration kit for the Apple iPad, an InCar Hotspot for internet access in the vehicle and a Rear Seat Entertainment System. The powerful Becker MAP PILOT navigation system is also an option. This system can transform the Audio 20 Radio into a powerful navigation system with 3D map views. Another retrofit option is the recent COMAND Online system, with or without DVD changer.

A range of carrier systems is also available, as well as ski and snowboard racks, roof boxes, and bicycle racks. There are also storage systems that allow better use of the load compartment.

A sportier exterior is also made possible with the AMG accessories including AMG bodystyling elements for the front and back aprons, side sill panels or AMG light-alloy wheels. The massive range of accessories is rounded off by items from the Mercedes-Benz Collection, which includes stylish fashionwear, holdalls, and Samsonite suitcases.

The third generation of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class model sets new breakthroughs and benchmarks in the sports utility vehicle or SUV segment, thanks to the cutting-edge automotive technology it uses. The new Benz M-Class features optimum energy economy, high standards in passive safety, as well as a combination of superior driving dynamics and maximum riding comfort. The car also has an entirely revamped ergonomic interior design.

With the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class, you can expect more environment-friendly and energy-efficient solutions through less emissions and low fuel consumption. In fact, on average, the model range burns 25 percent less fuel than its predecessor. This is the first time that the carmaker has successfully cut fuel consumption by a large margin with an SUV model change.

The energy-efficiency figures are all thanks to the M-Class vehicles’ ultra-modern engine lineup, extensive BlueEFFICIENCY measures, class-beating Cd value of 0.32, and new development tools like the “energy-transparent vehicle.” The car’s ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC plays a particularly outstanding role in this, as it is 28 percent more economical compared to its predecessor and it uses up just 6.0 liters per 100 km on the NEDC driving cycle (158 g CO2/km) and can cover a distance of as much as 1500 kilometers on just one tank of fuel.

New M-Class, in line with the Mercedes-Benz brand philosophy, embodies the automotive company’s holistic Real Life Safety concept, which is derived from real accident situations. The new M-Class’ high-strength passenger cell, together with the front and rear deformation zones, provides a very effective foundation for the occupant protection systems. Both of the M-Class’ active safety and driver-fitness safety are enhanced by assistance systems that are primarily familiar in Mercedes-Benz’s S-Class and E-Class.

All vehicles in the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class range provide amazing comfort as well as dynamic handling, whether you are on the road or away from the tarmac. Other than the steel suspension with its selective damping, the M-Class also features new chassis improvements and innovative dynamic handling control systems that are designed to make driving the new SUV model an effortlessly superior experience.

These improvements include the Airmatic Air Suspension with Adaptive Damping System (ADS), the ON&OFFROAD package with six driving modes, and the Active Curve System for active roll stabilization. A comprehensive package is also part of the M-Class’ new features to ensure that it is at the forefront of the SUV segment for acoustic and vibration comfort.
