Land Rover has revealed several improvements for the 2011 Range Rover Sport such as changes to the output of its engine range to its emissions levels. However, the most significant change for the 2012 model is the use of an 8-speed automatic gearbox that was developed by ZF. This is coupled to an enhanced version of the 3.0-liter SDV6 diesel engine that was given a 10hp extra boost to deliver a total of 256hp.
The diesel Sport will offer a more powerful performance but will have less CO2 emissions, from 243g/km to 230g/km while its combined fuel economy has been improved from 30.7mpg to 32.1mpg UK.
The Range Rover Sport SDV6 could accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph (98 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and could go on to reach a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). For 2012, the range-topping 5.0-liter supercharged V8 gasoline engine is unchanged, with an output of 510hp and an acceleration time of 5.9 seconds to get from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h).
Modifications to the 2012 Range Rover Sport include a broader range of exterior colors and interior trim. Across the range, a new powered, restyled tailgate has been fitted. The lift height is controlled by the button on the fascia or the key fob.
It can be set by holding the tailgate at the preferred height and pressing the tailgate button for 10 seconds. In addition, the Supercharged version of the Sport is fitted with a new 20" alloy wheel and is finished in Sparkle Silver with high-gloss lacquer.
The Range Rover Sport, Autobiography Sport and Limited Edition models have all undergone enhancements externally and internally for 2012.
The Range Rover Sport features modified rear tailgate graphics for a new and unique appearance, as well as front grille surround and headlamp inners treated in Gloss Black. A Dark Atlas grille is featured on the S and SE versions, while the HSE variant has a Light Atlas grille. Optionally, the Supercharged variant can be installed with new 20” alloy wheels in Sparkle Silver with glossy lacquer finish. It also features the Atlas grille surround.
The Limited Edition model has Gloss Black five-spoke wheels with Diamond Turned face. Along with the Autobiography Sport version, a new Ebony Morzine interior colour scheme is available for 2012, while the existing options have also been modernised. Minor modifications have also been applied to the grille, fender vents, bonnet badges, tow-eye, and door handles, the latter now in body colour.
Vastly Improved Infotainment System for 2012:
The new MOST Gen 2.1 electrical architecture has been adapted for the Hi-ICE and Premium audio. This is one of the many infotainment system improvements done for the 2012 Range Rover Sport. Other upgrades include new connectivity compatible with DVD audio formats on the Hi-Line and Premium systems, a Hard Disc Drive Music server, Dual Tuner with enhanced signal, Bluetooth for audio streaming, and USB for iPod and video streaming including two console lid ports. Rear seat entertainment is also more advanced, with new WhiteFireTM wireless technology for the cordless headphones. The Hi-ICE Harman Kardon System is now an 11-speaker system with a powerful 380W output (it was previously a 9-speaker 240W system). The most significant upgrade has been made for the Premium Harman Kardon LOGIC 7 system. This is now a 17 speaker system, up from 14, while the output power soars to 825W from the previous 480W level.
Also new on the Range Rover Sport is a high-tech 7-inch touch screen featuring Dual View technology. Introduced in the 2010 Range Rover, Dual View technology shows the driver the navigational display and the passenger a DVD show.
The new Hard Disc Navigation systems are comprised of the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) and voice-entry destination setting. Premium systems feature the new voice command called 'Say What You See' which assists the driver to learn commands via simple enumerated procedures on the screen and accepts short voice codes. The Park Heater also features a new 7-day timer.
Optional Luxury Pack:
An option on the 3.0 TDV6 HSE is the Luxury Pack which improves the vehicle features approximately to the premium level seen on the Supercharged models. This pack includes a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, Premium ICE, contrast stitching on selected upholstery and extended leather pack for the interior, and new 20-inch alloy wheels for the exterior.
