2012 Toyota Land Cruiser GX introduced in Australia

To the delight of consumers like the miners and farmers, Toyota has launched a tougher LandCruiser 200 Series wagon. This turbo-diesel GX is ideal for those whose owners tend to use their vehicles through harsh conditions. It features vinyl floors, twin barn doors at the rear (vertically hinged), 17-inch steel wheels, a snorkel, 93-litre main and 45-litre auxiliary fuel tanks, five seats, under-body protection plates and a standard car key.

The new GX is based on the GXL variant, the spiritual successor to the 100 Series Standard Grade. Toyota fitted the new GX with features intended to raise the comfort but it would still have to be sturdy. It is equipped with a single CD player, manual air-conditioning, power windows with driver's auto up/down and power-operated exterior mirrors.

It scores high on protection since the version has the complete set of GXL safety equipment. This is crucial for drivers and for the OH&S requirements of firms that operate fleets. This means that this vehicle comes with driver and front-passenger airbags, curtain-shield airbags, vehicle stability control, active traction control, hill-start assist, multi-terrain anti-skid brakes and Toyota CRAWL, which functions as an off-road cruise-control system.

Powering the GX is a 195kW/650Nm 4.5-litre V8 twin-turbo diesel engine. It also features a six-speed automatic transmission, full-time 4WD with Torsen limited-slip centre differential and two-speed transfer case.

But it doesn’t stop there. It has a 60/40 split-fold rear seat with seat-back recline and head restraints that are adjustable. It also offers a tilt-and-telescopic steering-column adjustment. The four-spoke urethane steering wheel features control switches for the four-speaker CD tuner audio unit, which includes facia-mounted 3.5mm AUX/USB# input, MP3/WMA compatibility and Bluetooth hands-free/audio streaming capability.

The cabin has several storage locations such as a centre console box, front and rear door pockets, front-seat cup holders, and map pockets on the back of the driver and front-passenger seats. Its spare wheel is fitted under the cargo floor. The 2012 Toyota Land Cruiser GX is priced at $77,990.
