Amid efforts to switch the European market’s focus to hybrids, Toyota hasn’t overlooked the release of its conventional-powered models. The all-new European-spec Toyota Yaris is expected to generate high sales. Deliveries in the UK will start this September. The car has a starting price of GBP 11,170, and is available in 3- or 5-door body styles.
The new Yaris has a more spacious interior, an improved versatility, and more fuel-efficient powertrains.
The 2012 Toyota Yaris is fitted with the following equipment as standard: 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, Vehicle Stability Control, and the inexpensive multimedia connectivity through the new Touch and Go audio system which includes touchscreen controls, Bluetooth/USB connectivity and a rear parking camera.
Four trim levels (T2, TR, SR and T Spirit) are offered. Buyers can choose from a range of engines including 1.0 and 1.33-litre petrols and a 1.4-litre D-4D turbodiesel.
The 3-cylinder 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and has an output of 68 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 93 Nm at 3,600 rpm. This variant has a fuel economy rating of 58,9 mpg and has CO2 emissions of 111 g/km.
Furthermore, the diesel version 1.4-litre D-4D that features a particulate filter as standard has an output of 89 bhp at 3,800 rpm and 205 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 2,800 rpm. This model’s fuel consumption and emissions levels are even lower at 72.4 mpg (UK) and 104 g/km.
