Article by Christian A., on March 19, 2012

Special guests witnessed Bentley's new Continental GT 4.0 litre V8 being driven up Goodwood's hill and demonstrating how prepared it is for the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer.

The newest member of the Continental family features Bentley's latest high performance engine, which has a distinct sporting sound. Steven Egan, Bentley's Marketing Operations Manager, said that the team is excited about its comeback this summer as one of the official partners at this festival. It also revealed that one of its leading ‘Bentley Boy' drivers will be behind the wheel.

The Bentley Driving Team subjected the world's fastest luxury convertible, the 6.0 litre W12 Continental Supersports Convertible ISR, and its flagship, the 6.75 litre V8 Mulsanne, to some early season and high-speed workouts. From the start of 2012 until today, Bentley has seen its global sales go up 47% year-on-year with 894 cars delivered to customers.

China sales have gone up by 66% with the delivery of 324 cars. Meanwhile, 251 cars were delivered in the U.S., more than 29% higher compared to the same period last year. Sales in Europe continue to climb and are now up 39%. The UK considers 2011 to be a difficult year but 2012 started with an impressive 16% increase. Its sales in the Middle East have grown by 55% with 93 cars delivered.

Coming out soon is the latest versions of the Bentley Continental GTC V8 convertible and GT V8 coupé. Housing a 4.0 litre, double turbocharged engine, it displays incomparable standards for power-to-emissions in the category of top luxury sports cars.

This extraordinary Bentley V8 engine achieves an unparalleled full power of 500 bhp (507 PS/373 kW) at 6000 rpm and an astonishing max torque of 660 Nm (487 lb ft) which exists throughout the entire rev range from 1700 to 5000 rpm, delivering superb performance and painless power showcase in the usual parameters of the Bentley convention.

Also, the latest V8 Continental autos rake in excellent levels of CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency among other luxury performance cars and are able to travel with a 500:1 ratio (500 miles for 1 tank of gas). Official numbers will be released at the start of 2012.

The new V8 Continental’s debut completes Bentley’s promise to Mother Earth to come up with a fresh powertrain that proves to be 40 per cent more fuel efficient with controlled CO2 emissions.

Highlights of the V8 engine include variable displacement with an extremely sleek engine management structure that guarantees a smooth and almost unnoticeable shift from V8 to V4 mode whilst on the light throttle load.

V8’s advanced technology also draws attention to the low friction bearings, energy recuperation via the charging system, high pressure direct injection, thermal management, and innovative turbo charger for better efficiency.

It’s easy to spot the new 4.0 litre V8 engine once you hear it rumble, which also differentiates it from its other Bentley comrades.
