BMW is adding an updated 7 Series hybrid for its 2013 lineup, offering fuel economy that’s almost as remarkable as the significantly smaller 3 Series. The ActiveHybrid 7 is replacing the V8 engine with a new hybrid turbocharged inline-six that’s guaranteed to make luxury car customers who also want high fuel economy pleased about its EPA rating of 22-mpg city and 30-mpg highway.

In comparison, the BMW 328i has a turbocharged 4-cylinder and considerably less weight to carry around returns 22/33 mpg. These figures are very impressive, considering the size of the BMW 7-Series sedan.

Notably, the ActiveHybrid 7 has an output of 349 hp and 367 lb-ft of torque. Another thing, the company has been boasting about the price of the 2013 ActiveHybrid 7′s price tag. The 2013 ActiveHybrid 7, which is offered just in a long-wheelbase version, has a starting price of $84,895. Its price has been reduced by $17,000 over last year’s model.
