The first ads from General Motors Co. on its return to Facebook as a customer will promote the Chevrolet Sonic subcompact car. GM, which stopped paying for ads on Facebook for 11 months, posted these test ads that run on Facebook's mobile applications and Web site. This is part of a wider mobile-marketing effort from GM.
To attract advertisers and to make sure that users are engaged longer, Facebook has been launching new services and tools. When GM decided to stop posting ads on Facebook last May, investors became worried that other major advertisers will leave the site.
This decision to go back to Facebook is indicative of the progress Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made in convincing companies to promote their products to people socializing on handheld devices. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has been in talks with GM CEO Dan Akerson since last year about resuming ads, sources said.
In March 2012, Facebook launched its mobile-advertising service, attempting to better generate money from the rising number of users that access service via wireless devices. Over 60% of its 1.1 billion members use the service through smartphones and tablets.
Stability, strength, and refinement, these are the three qualities that one can immediately see looking at the Chevrolet Sonic sedan. Proof of this is how the raked and progressive body lines are able to bring to mind movement even if the vehicle itself is at a standstill. Then there is how the planted and wide stance combined with proportions resulting from putting the wheels at its corners display performance.
Even then, the design is clearly Chevrolet given how its global design cues, like the round tail lamps and the dual-element grille, are able to mix well with the aggressive cues like the round headlamps inspired from motorcycles and the fender flares. Looking above the headlamps, one will see how the hood’s leading edge is able to form a character line which then goes to the smooth side profile.
Meanwhile the side profile is distinguished by the low roofline, high beltline, and the continuous body side lines. Since its side mirrors have the same form as that of the vehicle, it has the feel of disappearing to the profile. However the sedan and the five-door version can be easily set apart.
The “notchback” profile of the sedan gives it a more mature and upscale presence while the five-door feature brings with it a two-box and tight form that has that diving and aggressive feature lines. On its rear end, the five-door makes use of unconventional features like having its motorcycle-inspired taillamps more exposed. In addition, since the handles of the five-door model’s rear door are placed in the C-pillar area, it results in that three-door hatch appearance. For the Chevrolet Sonic, there are different features that help strengthen further the attention to detail and the quality present.
Examples of this include the honeycomb grille inserts in matte-black and the chrome grille surrounds, available for all models. There is also a wide range of wheel sizes offered like the alloy 17-inch ones. Regardless of what size is chosen, it highlights the Sonic’s character. While it is clear that the exterior design is motorcycle-inspired, the interior is able to complement the detail instrument cluster and the round analog tachometer placed in an asymmetrical LCD readout with a large digital display for the speedometer.
The surface of the mid-instrument panel will be offered in either brick or dark titanium and is able to smoothly flow to the upper doors and its premium-quality low glass finishes. Another feature on the interior is that the tubular outboard climate outlets now jut out of the instrument panel surface. For those who decided to have an automatic transmission, the shift knob comes with a cobra head design while those who like manual will have the shifter knob get a chrome finish.
Additionally the interior will also have storage compartments for both the doors and center stack. For those who want to stow large items, it is possible to fold the rear seats flat. The front bucket seats are standard through heated front seats are an option.
