Ford has released more details about the upcoming C-Max Hybrid and C-Max Energi twins, particularly its efficiency and performance. The EPA has certified the 2013 C-Max Hybrid to have a fuel economy rating of 47/47/47 mpg (city/highway/combined). Ford claims that the C-Max Energi has a range of 85 mph when being driven on just electricity.
The fuel-economy figures for the Ford C-Max Hybrid are significant since it has the same figure for city, highway, and combined rating. Typically, traditional cars score lower when it comes to the city and higher on the highway. On the other hand, hybrids have a tendency to have high city economy figures and highway figures that are a bit lower. However, Ford’s new hybrid was able to reach what it refers to as the EPA hat trick.
Ford wants to emphasize that the C-Max Hybrid is more efficient than the Toyota Prius V. The EPA said that the Toyota hybrid is capable of 44/40/42 mpg. The Ford C-Max Hybrid will go on sale this fall and will have a starting price of $25,995 (which includes destination charges). Meanwhile, the C-Max Energi can be driven by as fast as 85 mph on purely electrical power.
The C-Max Hybrid is capable of being driven by up to 62 mph on electrical power. Drivers are able to customize the battery pack’s use by clicking on a special “EV” button on the dashboard. When Selecting ‘EV: Auto mode’, Ford’s computer will be able to figure out how to combine the power of the electric motor and gasoline engine. Choosing ‘EV: Now’ will make the car turn off the gas engine and let the batteries take over.
Picking out ‘EV: Later’ means that the car will conserve its battery power and drive purely on gasoline. Ford said that the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, which holds a bigger battery than the C-Max Hybrid, can be driven by up to 20 miles on electrical power. It covers a total range of 550 miles with combined battery and gasoline power. The C-Max Energi has a starting price of $33,745 (after destination charges) when it becomes available in the fall.

Generally, lithium-ion batteries are 25% to 30% smaller and 50% lighter, making them so much easier to package within a vehicle. They can also be tuned to increase the vehicle’s power so as to boost acceleration, increase energy, and extend driving distance.
