2013 Ford Transit Custom gets a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP

Euro NCAP gave the all-new Ford Transit Custom a first-in-class five-star safety rating. The same top Euro NCAP score was also given to the Ford’s currently available Tourneo Custom, Ford’s newest passenger vehicle. This model, which was also named the 2013 “International Van of the Year,” reported a 77% score overall after it was subjected to new heavy vehicle crash tests.

It achieved the best–in-class marks for child protection (90%), adult protection (84%), and safety features (71%). In addition, Ford also got its first-ever Euro NCAP Advanced rewards for technology offered on a commercial vehicle. With this recognition for the Lane Keeping Alert, Ford now has a total of seven different Advanced rewards – the highest record reached by any manufacturer.

Furthermore, Ford earned another Advanced reward for SYNC with Emergency Assistance. The all-new Ford Transit Custom one-tonne van is built to offer excellent occupant and pedestrian protection in all accident situations. It has a bodyshell that has 40% increased high strength and ultra-high strength steels.

Meanwhile, the vehicle was treated to over 4,500 virtual crash simulations and 30 physical crash tests while it was developed. It is built with a complete line of features in the front end of the vehicle which are meticulously designed to lessen the risk of injury to pedestrians. It’s also the first Transit to be offered with a better restraint system with curtain airbags for front seat occupants.

The new and improved Ford Transit Custom model brings a whole new level of appeal to its class as it features a chic and car-like interior that combines superior craftsmanship, exceptional practicality and improved comfort. This model highlights a combination of sophistication and a fluid ride which makes it a comfortable haven you can wind up at after a long day of work.

Ulf Roentgen, the Interior Design Manager of Ford Europe, said that they want a car-like environment for this segment which is also very comfortable and can be converted as a mobile office if necessary. This is why in the new Transit Custom; they are providing a new modern and driver-focused field which highlights stylish looks as well as generous and hospitable spaces combined with smart stowage areas that serve as the host.

A Stylish and Car-like Design

This all-new Transit Custom also features a modern and stylish feel in its interior design. It adopts a design language which is more expressive and is common to the brand’s new kinetic design cars.

The car’s interior is specially designed with the aim to produce a more car-like and driver-focused feel that highlights as well the key elements to Ford’s kinetic design which includes bold graphics and characteristic sculpted forms. In order to furnish the cockpit with a distinct and modern look, the Transit Custom is also designed with distinctive trapezoidal shapes that of an instrument binnacle as well as a wing-like form that of an instrument panel.
