Euro NCAP gave the all-new Ford Transit Custom a first-in-class five-star safety rating. The same top Euro NCAP score was also given to the Ford’s currently available Tourneo Custom, Ford’s newest passenger vehicle. This model, which was also named the 2013 “International Van of the Year,” reported a 77% score overall after it was subjected to new heavy vehicle crash tests.

It achieved the best–in-class marks for child protection (90%), adult protection (84%), and safety features (71%). In addition, Ford also got its first-ever Euro NCAP Advanced rewards for technology offered on a commercial vehicle. With this recognition for the Lane Keeping Alert, Ford now has a total of seven different Advanced rewards – the highest record reached by any manufacturer.

Furthermore, Ford earned another Advanced reward for SYNC with Emergency Assistance. The all-new Ford Transit Custom one-tonne van is built to offer excellent occupant and pedestrian protection in all accident situations. It has a bodyshell that has 40% increased high strength and ultra-high strength steels.

Meanwhile, the vehicle was treated to over 4,500 virtual crash simulations and 30 physical crash tests while it was developed. It is built with a complete line of features in the front end of the vehicle which are meticulously designed to lessen the risk of injury to pedestrians. It’s also the first Transit to be offered with a better restraint system with curtain airbags for front seat occupants.
