2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo may have a starting price of $22,280

The 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo may have a starting price of $22,280 (with a base price of $21,500 plus $760 in destination charges), according to an Inside Line report that cited a Hyundai official. At the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, CEO John Krafcik provided plenty of details about the new, sporty version of the hatch but he didn’t give the pricing information.

He said that this car would start selling this summer and that this car would be powered by the 1.6-liter, 201-horsepower direct-injection four-cylinder and would be offered with a six-speed manual or a conventional six-speed automatic.

It weighs 2,800-3,005 lbs and has brake diameters of 11.8/10.3 and tire size of P215/40VR18. In comparison, the base 2012 Hyundai Veloster is priced from $18,060 and comes with a $760 destination charge. Meanwhile, the four-door Civic Si has a price tag of $23,175.

Hyundai officials also said that the Veloster Turbo isn’t available with a six-speed dual clutch gearbox since it isn’t part of the original U.S. product plan.

Hence, the mileage-oriented six-speed dual-clutch unit on the regular Veloster wasn't intended to handle the additional torque and can't be used for the turbocar. The 195 pound-feet of torque is considerably more than 123 pound-feet when talking about a transmission. At this juncture, the buyer had to get the car with a six-speed auto (and a 6MT). This only gives more reasons to go for the six-speed manual.
