2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake gets official

Article by Christian A., on July 9, 2012

After a leaked photo and video, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is officially here. As expected, the car carries the new AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine delivering 386 kW (525 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. But for those who want more power, there is the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1”, which delivers a total output of 410 kW (557 hp) and 800 Nm of torque.

The standard CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, while the “Edition 1” achieves the same speed in 4.3 seconds. Both versions have a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). Still, the car has a fuel consumption of 10.1 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC) which corresponds to a CO2 output of 235 g/km and is identical for both power units. These numbers are achieved thanks to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, which is equipped with four individual transmission modes as well as automatic double declutching and RACE START functions.

The transmission offers the "Controlled Efficiency" (C) mode, where the ECO start/stop function is always enabled and switches off the eight-cylinder engine when the vehicle is at a standstill. In "S" (Sport), "S+" (Sport plus) and "M" (Manual) transmission modes, the engine and transmission are significantly more responsive.

Moreover, the vehicle features the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension which offers three suspension modes: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport plus". As an option, Mercedes-Benz offers the AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system with 360 mm ventilated and perforated brake discs all-round. In terms of design we find a new AMG front apron, an AMG radiator grille with single slat, an AMG-specific design of the bonnet, new “V8 Biturbo” lettering on the front wings, a new rear apron with integrated air diffuser and an AMG sports exhaust system with two chrome twin tailpipes.

The sporty theme is continued at the interior where we can find AMG sports seats in nappa leather with multicontour seat and memory functions, AMG black piano lacquer trim and the AMG-specific analogue clock featuring an IWC design all help to create a unique aura.

Fitted with the AMG Performance Studio pack, the CLS 63 AMG can be fitted with an exterior carbon-fibeer package, AMG trim elements in carbon fiber/black piano lacquer, AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system, AMG rear axle differential lock, white illuminated AMG door sill panels at the front, lightweight forged AMG light-alloy wheels featuring a 5-twin-spoke design, painted in titanium grey.

Also optionally available for the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system with 16-channel DSP amplifier, ICEpower amplifier, total output of 1200 watts and 14 high-end loudspeakers.

Regarding the CLS 63 AMG “Edition1”, this model comes with a designo magno allanite grey paint finish, increase in power output to 410 kW (557 hp) and torque to 800 Nm, increase in power output to 410 kW (557 hp) and torque to 800 Nm, AMG trim elements in carbon fibre/black piano lacquer, designo roof lining in black DINAMICA microfiber, velour floor mats with designo leather surround in platinum white pearl and designo metal badges (only in conjunction with designo platinum white pearl leather upholstery).
