2013 Nissan GT-R gets more power and ‘For Track Pack’ version

Nissan announced today the 2013MY GT-R, an updated version of its most popular supercar, which will go on sale on November 24 in Japan and arrives in European, U.S. showrooms in January 2012. As expected, the 2012 Nissan GT-R comes with the same 3.8-liter V6 engine but the output delivered was increased from 390kW to 404kW (550PS/545 hp) from 6,400rpm with maximum torque of from 612 to 632Nm (64.5 kgfm/463 lb-ft from 448 lb-ft) from 3,200 to 5,800 rpm.

According to Nissan, the engine delivers more power due to improved intake efficiency, better airflow resistance and an improved exhaust valve cooling performance.

Moreover, the transmission was also improved thanks to a strengthened design of the shift fork arm and a firmer fixing bearing for the flywheel housing. A special differential oil R35 COMPETITION Type 2189E (75W140) is now used in every GT-R.

The GT-R's suspension in RHD versions has been set asymmetrically due to the fact that the propeller shaft for front wheels is located on the right side of the vehicle. Now available as an option are the NCCB (Nissan Carbon Ceramic Brakes), which can be installed on the GT-R Premium Edition and EGOIST grade. The interior quality has also been enhanced by the addition of blue lighting inside the tachometer ring to match the shift position indicator light.

Moreover, the Rear View Camera will not be offered as standard on all GT-R models, while the Bose sound system woofers, have been changed to Bose Precision Sound System woofers that were developed for the EGOIST grade. The last addition to the 2013MY will be the "For TRACK PACK", designed for customers who want to enjoy a more visceral driving experience.

This version was developed with NordRing Company in Japan and offers revised suspension settings, extra brake cooling (front and rear), and aluminum-alloy wheels from Spec-V made by Rays (with black quartz chrome color coating).

Moreover, the front spoiler with carbon air duct has been exclusively made for this edition and is installed as a set. In order to reduce the weight, this edition will be a two-seat configuration with quilted fabric mats in place of the rear seats. The front seats are covered with leather and high-grip fabric.

A "For TRACK PACK" will be offered for the Nissan GT-R range but for now it is limited to the U.K. and the Japanese markets. The goal of this package is to give customers that visceral driving experience they have long wanted. "For TRACK PACK" was created in partnership with Japan-based NordRing Company. Under this package, the settings for the suspension have been revised with extra brake cooling fitted on both the front and the rear. Meanwhile, the Spec-V wheels in aluminum alloy are provided by Rays and have that color coating in black quartz chrome.

Its spoiler in the front has a carbon air duct which is installed as a set and is exclusively created for this version. One change in this package is that the weight of the car is lower. This was made possible by having a two-seat configuration. In addition, instead of having seats in the rear, there are only the quilted fabric mats. Going back to the seats in the front, they have been covered in leather.

It also utilizes a high-grip fabric which has been manufactured exclusively for this version. With this, the seat is able to hold the driver firmly in place even when having this right-hand drive variant undergo spirited driving. The instruments that have been positioned in front of the driver givesthat certain high quality feel to it due to the tachometer ring having blue lighting.

Since this lighting complements the indicator light of the shift position, it gives the cockpit a more sophisticated ambience. Nissan though says that equipped as standard for all models is the Rear View Camera device. For the sound system, it has the Bose Precision Sound System woofers, the same ones in the EGOIST, rather than the Bose sound system woofers.

2013 Nissan GT-R

Nissan's iconic performance flagship GT-R is available in Europe and Japan for 2013 with improved response times, greater stability and even sharper handling.

At the very top of the Nissan range, the 2013 GT-R now has a reworked 550PS 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, generating improved responses from the mid and upper rev ranges. Modifications have also been made to the dampers, springs and front anti-roll bar. The result is greater high-speed stability, improved traction, a more refined ride and an enhanced driver experience.

The 0-62mph (0-100km/h) time is now only 2.7 seconds, 0.1 seconds quicker than in the model year 2012 car. The revised model is also even faster around the Nürburgring, lapping the famous German circuit in 7min 19.1 seconds when undergoing testing in May 2012.

Kazutoshi Mizuno, creator of the GT-R, has revealed that 0.5 seconds were lost to traffic on that hot lap, indicating that the MY13 GT-R is capable of a 7min 18.6 seconds lap. That compares to 7min 21 seconds for the MY12 GT-R.

With the GT-R always showcasing Nissan's latest technology, the modifications made are derived from data generated during competitive racing at the 2012 Nürburgring 24-Hour race in Germany in which two near-production GT-R models were competing.

The Nissan GT-R is a four-wheel-drive super-coupé like no other, with a lineage and integrity that stretches back more than four decades.

When the GT-R debuted its aggressive and unique styling and thunderous performance created a storm of publicity and rave reviews. It has been subtly upgraded every year since.


Sharper mid-range engine response and improved high-end acceleration.

The incorporation of high-output injectors that more precisely control fuel injection improve mid-range engine response and acceleration at higher rpms.

Specially-developed orifice to the relief valve have been added to the turbocharger bypass; these suppress the rapid decrease of the forced injection pressure, helping to sustain acceleration at high rpms.

By adding a specially-designed baffle plate to the oil pan, oil pressure is better stabilized while rotational friction within the oil pan is reduced, especially during high-performance driving.

Motul Competition Oil is offered as an engine oil option at Nissan dealers due to the many requests from GT-R customers who frequently drive their cars at circuit.


Glued-to-the-ground handling and rock-solid stability at super high speeds.

After meticulously measuring the roll center of a GT-R while in motion, Nissan engineers lowered the vehicle's center of gravity in accordance with the deflection of the suspension bushings and tires. The specifications of the shock absorbers and front stabilizer have also been modified.

Cam bolts have been installed on the front suspension to improve camber accuracy and maintainability of alignment settings.

The torque from the driveshaft to the hub bearings was increased to improve reliability in high-stress situations, such as competition(track) driving.

Reinforcements were added at two locations in the dash panel bar and instrument panel member , resulting in improved suspension performance and increased body rigidity
