BMW has unveiled that its BMW M5 and BMW M6 models will be offered with a new range of specialty performance parts and accessories. Among the most significant updates are the M Carbon-Ceramic Brake System and M Performance Exhaust System. These modifications are offered for the three BMW M6 variants: the coupe, the convertible, and the four-door Gran Coupe.
The carbon-ceramic brake system on the BMW M5 and M6 features rotors that are lighter and more heat-resistant than the standard braking system. The system is available together with the set of 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and uses brake discs with 16.1-inch diameter on the front axle. This is 0.4-inch better than the 15.7-inches of the standard model.
The rear brake discs still have a diameter of 15.6 inches. The brake system will be lighter than the standard BMW M5 or BMW M6 by 42.8 lbs, allowing for improved deceleration and handling. To achieve that distinct growl, BMW M GmbH and specialists from Akrapovic have built a full titanium exhaust system that decreases the weight by over 22 lbs, boosting performance as well as giving it a sportier sound.
The BMW M owners who want more interior accessories can ask for an Alcantara leather steering wheel and race display, which informs the driver about details like gear shifts and lap times.
The vehicle also comes with carbon mirror caps, M Performance high-gloss black front grille specific to every model, carbon interior trim, stainless steel pedals, and M Performance floor mats. These updates, together with the items on the 2014 BMW M5 or BMW M6 Competition Package, could bring the stock M models to a different level. BMW hasn’t yet announced the pricing information for the M Performance line.
