2014 Mazda CX-5 will receive a bigger 2.5-liter Skyactiv engine

Article by Christian A., on July 30, 2012

The 2.5-liter Skyactiv 4-cylinder engine will be offered as an option on the 2014 Mazda6, according to a source who attended a Mazda dealer meeting in Chicago. It has been said by many consumers that the 2013 Mazda CX-5 with its 2.0-liter Skyactiv engine doesn’t really offer much power.

This engine has an output of 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, making it have a bit more power than the version in the 2012 Mazda3.

It is the leader in its segment when it comes to fuel economy but it doesn’t have the impact of many of its rivals. A source said that Mazda aims to resolve this problem with a larger engine with more power. It will be available as an option.

The 2.5-liter Skyactiv 4-cylinder that will be introduced in the 2014 Mazda6 delivers nearly 170hp with equal torque. It features the automaker’s fun-to-drive traits.

It’s not yet known if Mazda intends to offer the CX-5 with a diesel powertrain option. The source also said that the new Skyactiv-D diesel engine will be available in the Mazda6 in October of 2013.

For Mazda, the new CX-5 signals a new chapter for the brand. Aside from being the first of the new generation of models to come from the brand, the CX-5, as a crossover compact SUV, is the best example of having the best of everything. It offers fun, ensures safety, and promotes sustainability, all in one fascinating package. In creating this special model, the development team at Mazda paid close attention to four important values.

Thus, while the exterior had a design that was both emotional and appealing, it was important the interior would showcase craftsmanship and have functionality. Another key value was sustainability in that the CX-5 should be a vehicle that would have little impact on the environment. As a Mazda model, it was just as significant that the driving dynamics would be responsive but at the same predictable.

One unique feature in the new CX-5 is that it is fitted with SKYACTIV powertrains which allow it to offer all the characteristics that would make this special model fun to drive, and ultimately, fun to own. As such, responsiveness is better, offers more torque, and delivers better fuel economy. With the most current version of the Sustainable Zoom-Zoom included, the CX-5 stands to become a vehicle that does what the driver wants it to do and reacts in the way it is expected to.

For Mazda, the CX-5 is significant as it is the best representation that the company is moving forward with its Jinba Ittai. This is the principle that Mazda focuses on and it relates to the driver and car being one, a quality of the iconic MX-5. Further, since the CX-5 is the first model to have the whole range of SKYACTIV technology, it is guaranteed to be a lightweight car that is more fun, more efficient, and more environment-friendly.

With this, the CX-5 is expected to begin what could be a new generation of vehicles from Mazda. SKYACTIV was created by utilizing the brand’s very own unique innovative approach when it comes to designing, engineering, and manufacturing, vehicles.

That the SKYACTIV is able to deliver value to new heights is due to the creators who managed to find a way to solve the conflicting goals of coming up with a range of chassis, bodies, engines, and transmissions.
