The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is here and promises to set a new standard in its segment. Powered by a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine developing an impressive 630 hp (463 kW) and a maximum torque of 1000 newton metres, the saloon hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).
Despite these numbers, fuel consumption has been reduced by 2.4 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC, combined), which means the S65 AMG needs only 11.9 litres per 100 km, making it the world's most fuel-efficient V12 high-performance saloon in terms of power and torque. Furthermore, the 12-cylinder model already meets the requirements of the EU6 emissions standard.
The engine obtaines all of these numbers also thanks to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission.
Moreover, the S65 AMG uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 78 Ah, which replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery, translating into a 20 kg weight saving. The S65 AMG comes as standard with the AMG sports suspension based on Magic Body Control.
The new S-Class is the first car in the world able to recognize road surface and adjust the suspension in advance. For the first time, the S65 AMG is available exclusively with 20-inch AMG forged light-alloy wheels, ceramic, high-gloss polished.
In terms of design, we find the three-dimensional V12 radiator grille with six twin louvres in high-gloss chrome, “V12 Biturbo” lettering on the wings, an AMG sports exhaust system with two chrome-plated, separate twin tailpipes.
As expected, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG will celebrate its double world premiere simultaneously at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show. The market launch will start in March 2014 and in Germany the S65 AMG will cost 232,050 euros (including 19% VAT).
