Nissan has just unveiled the 2014 Nismo GT-R and announced that this new monster will be available in Japan in late 2014, while the United States and Europe will get it later in 2014. According to Nissan CEO, the 2014 Nismo GT-R is the fastest Nissan GT-R ever and we should listen to him as the 3.8-liter V6 VR48DETT engine now delivers an impressive 600 hp (447 kW) and 652 Nm (481 lb-ft) of torque.
These numbers were possible due to new high-flow, large diameter turbochargers, which are used for GT3 racing, optimized ignition timing control for each cylinder as well as an upgraded fuel pump. The suspension set-up was also inspired by the Nismo racing GT-R and has been tuned for ability, road-holding and handling finesse.
The spring and custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers in the front and rear suspension were tuned to deliver high grip levels and progressive handling. Dunlop also developed exclusive Nismo tires (front: 255/40 ZRF20; rear 285/35 ZRF20) that exhibit outstanding grip and handling characteristics. To minimize body-roll during cornering and changes of direction, the Nissan GT-R Nismo features a 17.3 mm hollow rear anti-roll bar, which raises roll stiffness while reducing weight.
In terms of design, the 2014 Nismo GT-R comes with a new aero package that improves the road handling and minimizes the negative impact of drag. According to Nissan, the front bumper, engine undercover strake and carbon rear spoiler increase downforce, lowering the center of gravity and generating an additional 100 kg (at 300 km/h or 186 mph) when compared with the 2014 GT-R model.
A widened front bumper configuration and elongated yet tapered rear bumper design keep the drag to Cd 0.26, same with that of 2014 Nissan GT-R. Nissan will offer the 2014 Nismo GT-R in five body colors: Brilliant White Pearl, Meteor Flake Pearl Black, Ultimate Metallic Silver and Vibrant Red. And unique to the GT-R Nismo model, a Dark Matte Grey accentuates the car’s imposing exterior muscularity.
The exterior design is completed by the 6-spoke wheels, inspired by the legendary GT500 race car. Inside, the GT-R Nismo comes with ergonomically sculpted carbon-fiber-backed reclining Recaro seats (Europe/Japan), a redesign three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in alcantara. Moreover, the combi meter has a carbon-like finish, while the tachometer features a red design. The meter hood is also dressed with Alcantara. Interior trim features include discreet red stitching on the seats, center console, door trim and steering wheel.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn says this is the fastest Nissan GT-R ever. "With a 7:08.679 lap time, we can authoritatively say that the Nissan GT-R NISMO* holds the volume production car lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement."
