At the 2014 Worthersee Meeting in Reifniz (Karten) from May 28-31, Audi will bring the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept. If you ask us, this new concept car actually previews the new Audi RS3 Sedan, but for the moment we don’t have any official details. The dramatic new A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept is based on the S3 Sedan but comes with a 2.5-liter TFSI engine found on the RS Q3.
The engine delivers an impressive 525 hp (386 kW) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque, available between 2,300 and 6,000 rpm. With these numbers, the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 310 km/h or 192.6 mph.
In order to achieve these performances, the concept car suffered extensive modifications as Audi added a larger turbocharger with up to 1.5 bar of relative boost pressure as well as a modified intercooler. Compared with the standard S3 Sedan, the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept is 10 mm lowers. Moreover, the concept comes with big 21-inch alloy wheels, while behind them we find 370 mm brake discs (front).
The lightweight body lays the foundation for the show car's low curb weight (without driver) of just 1,527 kilograms (3,366.5 lb). The result is a race car like power-to-weight ratio of just 2.9 kilograms (6.4 lb) per hp. The Audi A3 clubsport quattro concept is 4,490 millimeters (14.7 ft) long, 1,856 millimeters (6.1 ft) wide and 1,382 millimeters (4.5 ft) tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,631 millimeters (8.6 ft).
The design of the car is completely new as it comes with a new singleframe grille with the Quattro badge and a matt aluminum frame, a new front bumper with large air intakes highlighted by the continuous blade of exposed CFRP. Moreover, there is a new splitter at the bottom of the front skirt, new side sills made of CFRP or carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, reduced side mirrors with an aluminum finish as well as the aluminum fuel cap.
At the rear, there is a large air diffuser but also the well0known tailpipes seen on all the RS models from Audi. What’s more interesting is that the vehicle comes with a rear trunk spoiler that goes from the spoiler position to nearly vertical in the blink of an eye. This air brake is used to reduce the stopping distance.
Inside, the racing theme is continued with racing seats for the driver and front passenger with CFRP shells that cover the back, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, contrast stitching in Sepang Blue, black Alcantara and decorative inlays in brushed aluminum.
The seven-speed S tronic gear knob comes with a red ring, a CFRP badge and Clubsport logo. In addition, the footrest and pedals are made of stainless steel, just like the two open-worked bars from the handles for the door openers. [source: Audi]
