2015 Chevrolet Equinox will get smaller, push the Trax out of the U.S.

Article by Christian A., on June 11, 2012

About 140 markets worldwide will get the all-new Trax SUV from Chevrolet but don’t expect it to be offered in the U.S. This is because the automaker thinks that the next-generation Equinox would be more than sufficient for the consumers in the U.S. GM InsideNews sources said that the Trax is based on the Buick Encore.

Under GM‘s Delta architecture, we learned that the next Equinox, which is smaller, will serve as the replacement of the Captiva. With this change in architecture, GM will be able to build the Equinox in other continents easily.

Even if GM doesn’t intend to offer the Trax to the U.S. anytime soon because of its similarities with the Equinox, this model is federalized to be available in the U.S. if GM changes its mind. GM believes that presently, the Trax is more appropriate for its other markets around the globe where there is more fragmentation in the crossover segment. It’s likely that the next-generation Equinox will be released in 2015.

Peper said that the style showcases Chevrolet's classic global look - the prominent gold Bowtie insignia and the two-tier grille. Bold fender curves, a distinct prime roofline, dual round taillamps and wraparound headlamps are some of the added features that identify the Equinox as an authentic Chevy.

Vice President of GM Global Design Ed Welburn said that the new Chevrolet Equinox combines design and purpose into a very athletic, but luxurious compact crossover. He adds that both the interior and exterior amaze and delight anyone with complete attention to specifics.

The car comes with additional features such as:

• A wheels-at-the-corners stance and a multi-dimensional hood and wraparound side glass at the back

• Better aerodynamic capabilities through a number of intricately designed body features, including moving the foundation of the windshield forward to about three inches (75 mm) for a more elegant profile

Chevy Equinox's rocker panels are incorporated in the doors to provide easy access when going in and out of the car. They keep a small area where a passenger must step, providing protection for pant legs that may brush and touch the dirty rockers. Another thing is that the particular use of chrome trim and flush-fitting "exposed-edge" windshield plus the rear glass fortify Equinox's manufacturing quality and cut down wind noise.

The dimensions of the Chevrolet Equinox include a 112.5-inch wheelbase (2,857 mm), but it is somewhat shorter at about one inch (25 mm) and an inch broader. It has broader front track that improves handling and ride as well.
