In order to celebrate the 50th birthday of its most famous nameplate, Ford introduced today the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition. Available in either Wimbledon White or Kona Blue colours, the new limited edition is based on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT fastback and according to Ford it offers as standard almost every available option.
Two options are available for the 50 Year Limited Edition: a choice of two exclusive colors and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. For those who don’t know, the first Mustang, with the serial No. 0001 and a Wimbledon White colour, was sold to Capt. Stanley Tucker in April 1964.
Back in 1960s, the chrome trim was much more prevalent on cars and as a result, the new limited edition features some discreet highlights on the grille, side glass and tri-bar taillamps. Furthermore, the darker Kona Blue shows a striking contrast against the chrome. The chrome bezels that surround the base of each of the three of the taillamp blades are inspired by the original 1962 design proposal by Gale Halderman.
According to Ford, the 50 Year Limited Edition will be the only 2015 Mustang featuring a faux gas badge on the rear fascia, as well as th4 ‘50 years’ lettering added on the GT designation. We can also observe the rear quarter-windows comprised of layered sheets of glass built with a construction technique uniquely developed for this car.
Inside, we find the special 50 Year Limited Edition plaque on the dash, aluminum trim, cashmere-stitched and leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as seats featuring two-tone cashmere and black leather upholstery but also the Mustang 50 Year logo on the seat backs. In addition, the cashmere-stitched is also used on the instrument panel, shifter boot, center armrest, door inserts and seats.
The Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition comes equipped with loop-carpet floor mats with cashmere stitching and suede binding not available on the standard version. Under the hood, there is a 5.0-liter V8 engine that generates more than 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. This special Mustang also comes with the GT performance pack that adds six-piston Brembo front brakes, 19-inch Y-spoke design alloy wheels wrapped in Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.
When using the six-speed automatic transmission the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition comes with a limited-slip rear differential with a 3.55:1 final-drive. Customers who opt for the six-speed manual will get a Torsen differential with a 3.73:1 final-drive ratio.
