2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class: details, specs and photos revealed unofficially

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will officially be unveiled in January, at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and will hit the U.S. showrooms next fall. Due to the popular CLA, the 2015 C-Class will move further upmarket and will be lighter, bigger and better equipped than the outgoing version.

In order to widen the gap between the entry-level CLA sedan, the 2015 C-Class will feature a more upscale interior and added optional driver assistance packages. The exterior design shows in fact a smaller S-Class, with more angles and slippery lines.

Moreover, the C-Class will be the first in its segment to offer an optional air suspension. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will have some important rivals such as the Lexus IS, Infiniti G37 and the new Infiniti Q50, the brand new Cadillac ATS as well as the Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series.

Mercedes-Benz will two all-wheel-drive versions of the C-Class in the United States: the 2015 C300 4Matic powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection inline four-cylinder engine rated at 235 hp and 370 Nm (270 lb-ft) of torque; the C400 4Matic powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection V6 delivering 329 hp and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. Both models will use a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Comparing it with the previous model, the 2015 C-Class is 220 pounds (100 kg) ligher, 3.7-inches longer and 1.6 inches wider.

Moreover, the new C-Class will offer new driver assistance systems that were introduced on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, such as: Distronic Plus, a semiautomatic system that keeps the car at a safe distance from the vehicle in front; Brake Assist System, that improves brake force if the driver does not apply the brakes; Pre-Safe Brake System that can detect stationary vehicles as well as pedestrians and brakes automatically; Enhanced Lane Keeping, a system that makes sure you keep you lane; Active Parking Assist. Head-up display is also optional and offers the driver information on the front windshield such as speed, speed limit in the zone, navigation and messages from the Distronic Plus System.
