MINI unveiled today the second body variant of the third generation MINI. The new MIN 5 door promises to offer new opportunities and boost brand’s sales, as it is the first time when the company offers a 5-door model in the small car segment.
According to the official press release the new MINI featured a wheelbase that was expanded by 72 millimetres (to 2,567 mm) comparing it with the standard MINI. This translates into space for three seats in the rear, 72 mm more foot space and legroom, 15 mm more headroom and 61 mm more interior width at elbow height.
In addition, the luggage compartment space was boosted to 278 litres or 67 litres more than the 3-door model. The new MINI 5 door has a total length of 3,982 mm (MINI Cooper S and MINI Cooper SD have a length of 4,005 mm), which means that the overall length was extended by 161 mm compared with the three-door version.
The vehicle width is 1,727 mm, while the height increased by 11 mm to 1,425 mm. The 2015 MINI 5 door will arrive with four model variants, two petrol and two diesel engines.
The 2015 MINI Cooper S 5 door will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology that delivers 192 hp (141 kW) and 280 Nm (300 Nm with overboost).
The model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds (automatic 6.8 seconds), while top speed is 232 km/h (230 km/h with automatic transmission). Fuel consumption is 5.9-6.0 litres/100 km when using a manual transmission, while with the automatic gearbox it needs 5.4-5.5 l/100 km.
The 2015 MINI Cooper 5 door comes with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology that delivers 136 hp (100 kW) and a maximum torque 220 Nm (230 Nm with overboost).
This model is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.2 seconds (8.1 seconds with automatic transmission), while top speed is 207 km/h. Fuel consumption is 4.7-4.8 litres (4.8-4.9 litres with automatic transmission).
The 2015 MINI Cooper SD 5 door comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that develops 170 hp (125 kW) and 360 Nm of torque. According to MINI, the Cooper SD 5 door accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds (7.3 seconds with automatic transmission), while top speed is limited at 225 km/h (automatic: 223 km). Fuel consumption is 4.1-4.3 litres (4.1-4.2 litres)/100 km.
The 2015 MINI Cooper D 5 door uses a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder diesel engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology that generates 116 hp (85 kW) and 270 Nm of torque. This model needs 9.4 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and 9.5 seconds when using an automatic transmission.
