Jaguar pays homage to British Design with special edition F-Type

Article by Christian Andrei, on January 9, 2016

Jaguar is introducing a very special version of its award-winning F-Type – the new Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition – as a tribute to its reputation as a pioneer of the great contemporary British design. The new Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition is derived from the F-Type S Coupé and Convertible, while boasting of styling upgrades and more equipment.

Just as its name suggests, the Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition could be specified in any of the colors included in the Union Jack: Caldera Red, Glacier White and Ultra Blue. Moreover, customers could specify their new Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition in Ultimate Black.

This new special edition could be availed either as a Coupé or a Convertible. It is powered solely by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine – mated to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission all-wheel drive – that develops up to 380PS of output and 460Nm of torque.

Ian Callum, Director of Design at Jaguar, described the F-Type as a sports car that excites the senses, adding that it comes with a "visual drama" that is both individual and British. Callum noted that the British Design Edition provided Jaguar with an opportunity to enhance the looks of the F-Type both inside and out.

Exterior Design

While the all-aluminum Jaguar F-Type is already a definitive British sports car, Jaguar decided to offer a more British version of it.

This was exemplified with exterior color options for the F-Type British Design Edition – all aside from Ultimate Black can be seen on the UK flag. The new F-Type British Design Edition features new badges for the front grille and the tailgate. In lieu of the red and green of the S roundel, the new special version has Union Jack detailing in subtle monochrome.

F-Type British Design Edition also boasts of its standard offering – the Sport Design Pack -- which comes as optional on the F-TYPE S. The Sport Design Pack includes a gloss black front splitter, body-colored side sill extensions and rear venturi.

The coupe variant of the new special edition could be specified with a fixed rear spoiler. The side profile of the new F-Type British Design Edition is completed by edition-exclusive 20-inch Cyclone wheels with Satin Dark Grey finish wrapped in 255/35/R20 front tires and 295/30/R20 rear tires – all larger than the wheels and tires of the Jaguar F-Type S. Customers could also avail, as an accessory fit, a set of British Design Edition center caps.

Aside from these features, the F-Type British Design Edition boasts of a stopping power that is now rendered more powerful, thanks to the Jaguar Super Performance Brake system. The F-Type British Design Edition features calipers finished in red, although customers could avail of black as an option.

Interior Design

Moving inside the cabin of the F-Type British Design Edition, it features an elegant interior that continues its British theme. Moreover, the F-Type is a sports car that’s quite unique, thanks to the wonderful combination of luxury materials, elegant colors, supportive seats and a driver-oriented 'one-plus-one' cockpit.

As mentioned, the interior of the Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition is gifted with premium Jet leather all throughout. This is complemented by contrast stitching in a choice of three unique colors that would match the exterior finish: Red, Ivory and Reims Blue.

Moreover, the driver-oriented theme of the 'one-plus-one' cockpit is accentuated by carbon fiber trim around the center console – replacing the aluminum trim found on the Jaguar F-Type S – and completed by British Design Edition branding.

Additionally, the 14-way sports seats of the Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition come with headrests embossed with British Design Edition branding. This unique branding could also be found on the stainless steel tread plates.

This special edition is offered with Jaguar's InControl Touch and InControl Touch Plus infotainment systems, along with enhanced audio equipment developed with Meridian. Both InControl Touch and InControl Touch Plus could support an array of apps that allows drivers to get connected easier and more convenient than before.

Interestingly, all MY2017 F-Type convertibles – including the British Design Edition convertible – come with eight liters of additional luggage room, thanks to Jaguar's move repack key components at the rear.
