Article by Christian Andrei, on January 8, 2016

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. has recently launched its super compact SUV, the Mahindra KUV100 (pronounced as KUV ‘1 double Oh’) with the codename S101. M & M, India’s leading SUV manufacturer, also introduced a new engine family called the mFALCON, thus announcing the company’s first entry into the ground up petrol space.

KUV100 has been created, keeping a completely new category of compact SUVs in mind. The ‘K’ stands for ‘kool’ and represents the trendy youth whereas UV stands for an SUV. The ‘100’ comes in line with the numeric series below TUV300 and XUV500.

The rough and tough style, which is typical of Mahindra vehicles, is very much present in the aggressively styled KUV100. The powerful KUV100 gets its power from the world-class mFALCON engine family that has dual options of petrol (mFALCON, G80) as well as diesel (Mfalcon, D75).

This lightweight and compact engine has been built to provide high power performance, much like the falcon, bird of prey. Both the petrol engine, which is a 1.2L, 82 HP and dual VVT engine, and the diesel version, which is a 1.2L 77 HP turbo charged engine, are capable of delivering high, low-end torque for a power packed and enjoyable SUV performance.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, ED, M & M Ltd. clearly represented the company’s aim of creating a new segment by launching the KUV100, thus marking its entry into the petrol engines segment. The powerful SUV is being launched with an ambitious start to attract first time car buyers with its unique properties.

The new launch is all set to take Mahindra to a new level and is destined to gain instant popularity amongst its buyers. President and Chief Executive of the Automotive section, M & M, Pravin Shah has explained that the company aims to meet the youth’s need for an SUV lifestyle.

It has tried to effectively address the requirements of its customers during the creation and development of their product. The KUV100 is the product of the company’s state of the art manufacturing unit at Chakan.

The new generation compact SUV is a no-compromise futuristic vehicle, the first of its kind. Already a leader in the SUV segment, Mahindra has another feather in its hat now with the introduction of KUV100 in its portfolio and is welcoming its customers right from the entry level to the high end SUVs.

KUV100 has a well sculpted body that has been developed in-house at Mahindra’s world class research and development facility at Chennai, the Mahindra Research Valley. The exterior features a bold hood and high beltline that give the vehicle a trendy urban crossover.

Other stylish elements like the well placed headlamp which look like wrap round shades give the SUV an impressive look. The KUV100 has been styled and designed with the youth and first time buyers in mind. This monocoque SUV has many firsts incorporated within it, one of which is Mahindra’s very first ground up petrol engine.

The vehicle is a product of extensive research of global standards and thus depicts high class quality and technology, fulfilling global testing norms and emissions regulations. The KUV100 is being launched in an array of 7 exciting colors of Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Fiery Orange, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Midnight Black and Designer Grey.
