Mercedes-AMG introduces Edition 1 models for C63 Coupe and the C63 S Coupe

Article by Andrew Christian, on September 5, 2015

Mercedes-AMG will be offering two new Edition 1 special models – the C 63 Coupé Edition 1 and the C 63 S Coupé Edition 1. Each Edition 1 version will have different exterior designs and equipment to cater to the differing demands of customers.

In fact, both the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé and C 63 S Coupé will be available as "Edition 1" special versions when they are launched in the market.

Meanwhile, the aggressive exterior looks of the C 63 Coupé S Edition 1 continues inside. Its cabin features AMG Performance seats upholstered in Nappa leather with yellow contrast stitching in diamond pattern. Since the seats don a sharply contoured shape, they provide ample lateral support to occupants.

Other interior parts like door center panels, the steering wheel rim, arm rest and the beltline also feature yellow contrast stitching. Meanwhile, cabin parts like the instrument cluster, the AMG-specific analogue in IWC design and the floor mats also feature yellow accents.

Furthermore, the Performance steering wheel features DINAMICA microfiber and flattened bottom. The Edition 1 also features a middle section trim in matt carbon color.

On the other hand, the exterior of the C 63 Coupé Edition 1 seemed to be less demonstrative that that of the C 63 S Coupé Edition 1.

Instead of yellow, the sport stripes in C 63 Coupé Edition 1 are in graphite grey matt while the rim flanges of the matt black forged wheels feature a high-sheen cross-spoke design.

While sport tires and the ceramic high-performance compound brake system are standard for the C 63 S Coupé Edition 1, they are offered as an option for the C 63 Coupé Edition 1.

Likewise, all exterior paints are available for this Edition 1 model. Furthermore, the C 63 Coupé Edition 1 is also available with the AMG Aerodynamics Package, the AMG Night Package and the Performance steering wheel. In terms of performance, the C 63 Coupé Edition 1 is definitely not a model that other cars can easily outrun.

After all, the Edition 1 is powered by the AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that develops 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp).

This powerplant is complemented by the AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension that features electronically controlled shock absorbers as well as specific AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes and rear-axle limited-slip differential. Giving the C 63 Coupé a muscular appearance are its flared front and rear wheel arches, larger wheels and increased track width.

Exterior Design

As for the exterior of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé S Edition 1, the featured color scheme is the designo Magno Selenite Grey matt paint with yellow film coating, taking a cue from the appearance of the 2016 C 63 DTM that was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show and underscoring its proximity to motorsport.

Highlighting the car’s engine bonnet, boot lid and roof are yellow sports stripes. These stripes can also be found on the side lines above the rocker panels.

Likewise, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé Edition 1 is equipped with very light matt black Performance forged wheels that feature a five double-spoke design and yellow rim flanges.

Front wheels (9.0J x 19) are wrapped in 255/35 R 19 custom sports tires while rear wheels (10.5J x 20) are hugged by 285/30 R 20 custom sports tires.

All tires provide improved traction on dry roads. Furthermore, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé S Edition 1 is fitted with ceramic high-performance compound brake system for outstanding deceleration values and lower unsprung mass.

This Edition 1 model is fitted with the AMG Aerodynamics Package that includes an additional large front spoiler, lateral airflow breakaway edges in the rear apron, specific side skirts, and the specific airflow breakaway edge on the boot lid and specific rear diffuser.

All these elements -- in high-gloss black – help reduce aerodynamic lift and further improve the model’s racing-inspired appearance. Moreover, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé S Edition 1 is accorded with the AMG Night Package with chrome-plated tailpipe trim.

This package includes: a radiator grille with double plate in silver chrome; waistline trim strip and window frame in high-gloss black; side sill panel inserts in high-gloss black; and A-wing of the front apron and A-wing trim strip in high-gloss black.

Other features include: an exterior mirror housing in high-gloss black; an exhaust system with two chrome-plated twin tailpipe tips; a heat-insulating, dark tinted glass from the B-pillar backwards; and a rear apron trim strip in high-gloss black.

Special Model to Market Launch: Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé Edition 1: Inspired by Motorsport

Mercedes-AMG is bringing the C 63 Coupé Edition 1 special model to the starting line. The exclusive colour combination in designo Magno Selenite Grey with yellow film coating and black wheels with yellow painted rim flanges reflects the graphic design of the Frankfurt International Motor Show launch version of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM racing coupé which will be used in the DTM next year. The special model is equipped with Performance seats and an aerodynamics package, highlighting its proximity to motorsport.

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé and C 63 S Coupé are also available as "Edition 1" special models from market launch. The extraordinary combination of exclusive design and equipment characteristics is inspired by the optical appearance of future Mercedes-AMG racing coupés which will compete in the popular DTM series in 2016.

Two exterior designs address different customer wishes. The first variant, available exclusively for the S-Model is particularly striking: The colour scheme in designo Magno Selenite Grey matt paint with yellow film coating borrows the look of the Frankfurt International Motor Show launch version of the 2016 C 63 DTM and thus highlights its proximity to motorsport. Yellow sport stripes adorn the engine bonnet, roof, boot lid as well as the side lines above the rocker panels.

With yellow painted rim flanges, the extremely light, matt black Performance forged wheels in 5 double-spoke design also set a distinctive accent. Size 9.0J x 19 with 255/35 R 19 tyres are used at the front, 10.5J x 20 with 285/30 R 20 tyres at the rear. The custom sports tyres offer a tangibly enhanced level of traction on dry roads. The C 63 S Coupé Edition 1 is equipped with ceramic high-performance compound brake system offering the ultimate deceleration values and lower unsprung mass, thus increasing performance on the racetrack.

The exterior of the second Edition 1 variant is more restrained. The sport stripes are rendered in graphite grey matt and the rim flanges of the matt black forged wheels have a high-sheen cross-spoke design. Sport tyres and the ceramic high-performance compound brake system are available as an option for this variant. In addition, all exterior paints are available for this variant.

In both variants, the AMG Aerodynamics Package in high-gloss black enhances the racing-inspired appearance. The additional large front spoiler, specific side skirts, lateral airflow breakaway edges in the rear apron, the specific rear diffuser and the specific airflow break-away edge on the boot lid not only reduce the lift but also sharpen the optical impression.

The AMG Night Package with chrome-plated tailpipe trim is also in the series-production version of the Edition 1. The following features are included:

  • Radiator grille with double plate in silver chrome
  • A-wing of the front apron and A-wing trim strip in high-gloss black
  • Side sill panel inserts in high-gloss black
  • Waistline trim strip and window frame in high-gloss black
  • Rear apron trim strip in high-gloss black
  • Exterior mirror housing in high-gloss black
  • Heat-insulating, dark tinted glass from the B-pillar backwards
  • Exhaust system with two chrome-plated twin tailpipe tips

The genuine racing feel continues in the interior. The AMG Performance seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, including the colour yellow in the contrast stitching of the specific diamond pattern. In addition, the more sharply-contoured seat shape enhances lateral support, particularly in curves taken at high speed. Yellow contrast stitching is also found in the door centre panels, arm rests, the steering wheel rim as well as the beltline.

Further yellow accents adorn the instrument cluster, the AMG-specific analogue in IWC design and the floor mats. With the Performance steering wheel of DINAMICA microfibre featuring a flattened bottom, the driver always has the C 63 Coupé securely under control. The middle section trim in matt carbon colour also gives the unmistakable signal of what the Edition 1 is about: Uncompromising dynamics at the highest level.

The technical set-up is ideal: strikingly flared front and rear wheel arches, an increased track width and larger wheels give the new C 63 Coupé a muscular look while at the same time providing a basis for the highly agile longitudinal and lateral dynamics. The AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp) guarantees spectacular driving performance, supported by the sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the specific AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, the rear-axle limited-slip differential or the dynamic engine mounts in the C 63 S Coupé.
