With the arrival this May of the all new Mercedes Benz E-Class Saloon in the UK approaching, it is now time to get your orders in. An OTR price of £35,935 will start you with the more basic of two trim levels (SE & AMG) and the smaller of 2 engines available (E220D & E350D), garnering you a 2.0L bi-turbo engine harnessing 195hp, controlled by the seamless 9G-Tronic auto gearbox.

It puts out a low 102g/km CO2 and attains a fuel economy rate of 72.4 mpg. Even with anemic levels of diesel sipping, this new generation of E-Class 2.0L delivers 0-62 mph performance in 7.3 seconds.

E350D models will start at £44,930 and deliver 258hp and 0-62 mph performance times of 5.9 seconds while emitting 133g/km and 55.4 mpg. Standard SE accessories include: Garmin Map Pilot navigation system with 8.4-inch display; Parktronic parking sensors with reversing camera and Park Pilot self-parking system; Collision Prevention Assist Plus autonomous emergency braking system; Pre-Safe anticipatory safety system (which includes Pre-Safe Sound that aids in protecting hearing); 64-colour selectable LED interior lighting; two-zone automatic climate control; three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with dual touchpads; leather upholstery with heated front seats; LED headlights and taillights; electrically folding mirrors and 17-inch wheels (18-inch on the E 350 d).

AMG accessories include: AMG exterior styling elements include one-of-a-kind bumpers and side skirts; a set of 19-inch alloy wheels; three-spoke AMG steering wheel; Artico leather and Dynamica microfiber upholstery with seat comfort package; and perforated front brake discs. E350D models have the Air Body Control multi-chamber air suspension as standard equipment.

These models also come with COMAND satellite navigation with a 12.3-inch display as well as remote online services. (This COMAND satellite system is available on E220D models for £1,495 and the accompanying 12.3-inch display is priced £495.)

Premium and Premium Plus packages are offered with the new model redesign of the new generation. Premium (£2,795) includes panoramic glass roof, front memory seat, and keyless entry. Premium Plus (£3,895) includes all features of Premium as well as a 13-speaker Burmester Surround Sound System featuring a 9 channel amp with 590-watts of output.

Also included in the Premium Plus package is the Multibeam Intelligent Light LED System with the Active Light System, which utilizes 84 individually focused and controlled LED's, turning them off and on individually to create optimum illumination for the driver, while not blinding surrounding drivers.

A Lane Tracking package (£595), which includes Passive Blind Spot Assist as well as Active Lane Assist, is available as well. The more comprehensive Driving Assistance Plus package (£1,695) has a newly available feature which inflates a chamber in the backrest of the seat when it detects a lateral impact to move the driver or front passenger further from the side of impact.

The Driving Assistance Plus Package also includes Drive pilot, which has Distance Pilot Distronic – a feature that maintains the gap between this car and the one in front of it. This works together with a new functionality that allows it to follow the car before it.

Aside from the Comand Online Navigation, the system has Speed Limit Pilot, which controls the speed to camera-detected limits or preset speeds logged into the navigation system's folders. In addition, it has Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function; Evasive Steering Assist; and Pre-Safe Impulse Side.

The gasoline-hybrid E350E will also be joining the UK portfolio in late 2016 bringing with it an output of 279hp, 600Nm, an acceleration figure of 6.2 seconds, and a CO2 emissions rating of 49g/km.
