Volvo launches sportiest-ever R-Design variant of XC90 in the UK

Article by Christian A., on December 1, 2015

A new R-Design version of the prize-winning 2016 Volvo XC90 has been launched. The R-Design family is well known for having the sportiest style within the XC90 lineup. The new Volvo’s seven-seat SUV will come with a variety of features such as a wide range of design, dynamic and equipment upgrades, all of them aiming to accentuate the sporty attitude of the vehicle.

Its exterior features 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. It is accentuated with silver-effect door mirrors that make a beautiful contrast with its gloss black mesh front grille and its tinted rear windows.

The inside is fitted with comfortable leather/nubuck sports seats, a 12.3-inch active TFT driver’s information display.

The driver will steer this vehicle with a perforated leather-trimmed wheel complete with gearshift paddles. These also feature an enhanced passenger seat that features a memory function just like that of the driver’s seat. It also comes with sport pedals, black headlining and upgraded interior lightning.

Furthermore, there is even an exclusive R-Design leather-clad remote key fob. A whole range of customizability is offered with the R-Designs models. They come with Drive Mode Settings and Adjustable Steering Force (as the standard model does) so you will have total freedom of choosing between the different possible settings for the engine, transmission, steering and the option air suspension.

All of these are offered as standard on the XC90 models. Meanwhile, the entry-level XC90 Momentum models have the following standard specs: nine-inch touch screen control system, Sensus Navigation, a two-zone climate control with the Volvo’s highly advanced CleanZone air quality system, light emission diodes (LED) headlights that ensure the best vision in the dark, a power operated tailgate that’s totally hands-free to operate, and the Volvo On Call mobile application.

All the passengers will benefit from the safety equipment this model offers as standard, such as the City Safety which ensures complete automatic and user-independent braking to avoid front collisions involving pedestrians or cyclists. This feature is made possible by its sophisticated detection system.

It also comes with a driver alert control with lane departure warning, and of course, frontal and side full-length curtain airbags. When asked about the R-Design, Nick Connor (Managing Director of Volvo Car UK) responded that the arrival of the XC90 R-Design adds to the dynamism of this premium range.

It boasts of stunning sporty looks and it’s now more luxurious due to additional equipment offered by the company. You can find the R-Design either with the D5 diesel or T6 petrol Drive-E engines, or powered by a T8 Twin Engine in its petrol-electric hybrid form. The XC90 R-Design has a starting price of £49,785 OTR.
