Buick reveals latest mid-size luxury SUV: the 2017 Enclave Sport Touring Edition

Article by Andrew Christian, on March 31, 2016

Buick revealed today its most recent addition to its Sport Touring Edition lineup. With its Satin Black Ice-toned grille and the chrome-clad 20-inch wheels highlighted with Satin Black Ice, 2017 Buick Enclave Sport Touring Edition is indeed a more athletic and expressive version of its Enclave mid-size luxury SUV.

The company expects that this latest offering will be able to bring its newest design theme to its most loyal customers. Data shows that for 2015, an estimated 33.4% of Enclave sales were due to returning customers. This is not only seen as the highest loyalty rate for a Buick model but also it ranks high with regards to the top model-to-model loyalty rates for the crossover SUV class.

In fact, the Buick even managed to beat other competitors like the Acura MDX and the Audi Q7, and even other vehicles like the Toyota Highlander and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Sales of the 2017 Enclave Sport Touring Edition will start this summer. Other standard features on the Sport Touring Edition, both available on the Leather and Premium trims, include the wood-trimmed heated steering wheel.

The Leather trim will have the heated front seats while the Premium trim has the ventilated/heated seats. The Premium trim will also have the telescoping/power-tilting steering column. Further featured in both trims are the eight-way power front driver and passenger seats that offer driver memory, lumbar support, and power recline.

There is also the ice-blue LED ambient lighting about the instrument panel. There is also the Buick IntelliLink with the color touchscreen radio, tri-zone automatic climate control, power liftgate, and high-intensity discharge headlamps.

Also available are 4G LTE connectivity and the built-in Wi-Fi spot with a three-gigabyte data or three-month trial. Finally there is the rear-vision camera system and the rear park assist with its dynamic guidelines.

The 2017 Enclave Sport Touring Edition is powered by the 1.4-liter turbo engine. This is the same engine that powers the distinctively trimmed 2016 LaCrosse, Regal and Verano Sport Touring Edition luxury sedans models.

It is also the same engine in the Encore Sport Touring Edition. In addition, the Enclave Tuscan Edition provides another special model that focuses on design with the bronze-tone grille and the chrome-clad 20-inch wheels with its bronze highlights.

Exterior Design

The exterior has a timeless design and it carries the trademarked QuietTuning of the brand plus three rows of first-class and premium seating with the goal making the adult passengers comfortable. This is just one of the reasons why Buick’s Enclave has been one of the industry’s most successful brands.

Launched in 2007, Buick’s sales of SUVs went up from 31% to 61% by 2015. Eight years on, the model remains to be one of the sources of its highest sales. In 2013, the Enclave was paired with the Encore, the brand’s small SUV, which has also become one of its best-sellers.

The Envision compact SUV meanwhile will become part of the brand’s line-up for the North American market this coming summer. Global Buick Vice-President Duncan Aldred said that the success story of the Buick Enclave is one of the best in the auto industry.

This particular model, he added, has managed to make a new generation of Buick customers and even managed to always meet their expectations. The Sport Touring Edition is the modern version of the brand’s flagship crossover SUV and is a good sign of the brand’s continued growth this year, Aldred further added.

The 2017 Enclave Sport Touring Edition is shown at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. There will be two trims available, the Leather (1SL) trim and Premium (1SN) trim. Three colors for the exterior will be made available, namely: Crimson Red Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic, and White Frost Tricoat.
