A fresher and better Tesla Model S arrives

Article by Christian Andrei, on April 18, 2016

The Tesla Model S has been in the market for as long as four years now which means that it was up for a bit of updating. Aside from over the air software updates, the Model S is due for some interior and exterior polishing.

The interiors have also been upgraded to make the car look more upscale; thus making the Model S a worthy competitor to German luxury cars. The Model S seats have received quite a lot of criticism in the past for its lack of quality, so now Tesla is bringing in the seats from the Model X.

Model S will now have new heated and ventilated front seats with a medical-grade HEPA air filter. These will come as a Model S option. Other than that, a choice of Dark Ash and Figured Ash wood trim will now come with the Model S - a feature that will raise its luxury factor by a lot.

Tesla Model S is known to be a storage-friendly vehicle with its trunk and “frunk” and now with an additional door pocket interior storage compartment for more storage space. The new Premium upgrade package will include Nappa leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner, and LED ambient lighting.

On the other hand, the Subzero Weather Package will come with heated rear seats and steering wheel for those cold winter nights (and days), as well as heated washer nozzles. There will be four powertrain options available that will cater to every EV enthusiast, ranging from the most conservative to the adrenaline junkie.

Sales for the refreshed and improved version of the Model S will begin soon. It is expected to come at a base price of $71,500. Bet Tesla fans are now going gaga over the new Model S.

Exterior Design

Model S will have a new front end which is a combination of the Model X and the upcoming Model 3. Actually, the Model S is expected to get a nose job to make it look like a mix of the Model X and Model 3.

The grille is also more slender compared to the first version of the Model S and LED headlights have been added to the car.

Tesla is also offering a few new paint colors for the Model S. In general, the Model S will have a flat surface look that is sure to make a bold statement while immediately identifying it as a pure electric vehicle.

Air is not required to be sucked into the car anymore to cool off the internal combustion engine similar to what’s used by gasoline powered vehicles.

The Model S 70 will come with 315 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque that will enable the car to go from 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5.5 seconds as well as reach a top speed of 140 mph. The Model S 70D on the other hand will add a dual motor and AWD; thus carrying with it a total of 328 horsepower and 387 lb.-ft. of torque.

Consequently, it will increase the range from 230 to 240 miles on a single charge and sprinting from 0 to 60 mph will be achieved in just 5.2 seconds. For the 90D, a total of 417 horsepower and 485 lb.-ft. of torque shall be produced plus a 0 to 60 acceleration time of 4.2 seconds.

The range will increase to 294 miles on a single charge. Lastly, the top-end P90D will come with 463 horsepower and 713 lb.-ft. of torque that will allow the car to be driven from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds.

With an optional Ludicrous Mode, the Model S boasts an outstanding 532 ponies and a 2.8-second 0-60 time.
